According to a law applied for the first time in Iraq, a judge was imprisoned, "his wife's money inflated"

On Thursday, the Iraqi Integrity Commission announced the imprisonment of a retired judge against the background of an "illegal" increase in his wife's money, worth more than 17 million US dollars, discovered according to a law applied for the first time in the country.

The commission said in a statement that a "decision of severe imprisonment" was issued against a retired judge in a precedent that is the first in which the Iraqi judiciary issued a ruling based on the commission's law, "the law of illegal gain at the expense of the people."

The statement added that the conviction decision took place after recording a “significant increase in the money of (the judge’s) wife, and his inability to prove the legality of that increase, indicating that (24) shares that make up three quarters of the shares of a real estate in Baghdad were registered in the name of the convict’s wife at an amount of (17,250,000) million. dollars".

The court ruled imprisonment, refunding the full amount, and a fine of ten million dinars (8 thousand dollars).
