DOJ argues it should substitute for Trump as defendant in E. Jean Carroll lawsuit

The Justice Department argues, as it did under ex-President Trump, that it should substitute for him as defendant in a defamation suit brought by writer E. Jean Carroll

Something stinks at the DOJ. This is the third time in as many weeks that they have pulled up short on going after Trump in a plainly illogical and ridiculous way. How can you possibly put the DOJ on trial for Trump defaming and slandering someone who claims Trump raped her? It's a plainly farcical argument. Are they corrupt as the last lot and going to let power and privilege skate? Or is there something deeper? If they plan to bring criminal charges against Trump, maybe clearing the path of the more minor cases makes sense. Tell that to the victim. I actually suspect Biden is trying to calm the waters and move beyond Trump. Like leaving the bodies in the water hoping they'll wash away - but instead they just stink and poison the well. It is stunning, that this country that I once held on such a high pedestal as being the champion of freedom, human rights and it's people, now looks more like a corrupted banana republic.

I am assuming this rape occurred prior to trump being president. The defamation is a result from this rape, that occurred prior to trump being president. Many cannot see why the federal government of the day (Biden) DOJ would actively participate in defense of a former POTUS in crimes (defamation is considered a crime). This is an obscene use of tax payers dollars for the DOJ to involve themselves in this manner. Yes the defamation was during the time of presidency, but it relates to an alleged rape that happened before his presidency. The DOJ have a very weak excuse to do this and should not do this.

I feel like suing anyone trying to associate me with someone else because of mere disagreement. Since I did not vote for Trump, never supported the man, defamation is a common occurrence. To extort people, it is a constant theme to associate people with Trump, because someone will not concede values or principles. It is amazing to point out that a lot of crimes go un prosecuted and unpunished. One will find that civil lawsuits and bribes halted criminal charges and convictions. For me rape should be a death penalty crime, it should not be a mechanism for civil lawsuits, a mechanism for politics or social agendas, just the death penalty.

During the presidential campaign, Joseph R. Biden Jr., then the Democratic candidate, slammed his opponent, Donald J. Trump, for a highly unusual legal move: bringing in the Justice Department to represent him in a defamation lawsuit stemming from a decades-old rape allegation.

At one of their debates, Biden accused Trump of treating the Justice Department like his “own law firm” in the suit, filed against him by the writer E. Jean Carroll. “What’s that all about?” he sarcastically asked.

But on Monday night, nearly eight months after Biden’s attack, his own Justice Department essentially adopted Trump’s position, arguing that he could not be sued for defamation because he had made the supposedly offending statements as part of his official duties as president.

In a brief filed with a federal appeals court in New York, the Justice Department acknowledged that Trump’s remarks about Ms. Carroll were “crude and disrespectful,” but the department also claimed that the Trump administration’s arguments were correct — a position that could lead to Ms. Carroll’s lawsuit being dismissed.

Biden has repeatedly said he wants to restore the Justice Department’s traditional independence from the White House — a stance that has been echoed by several of his top picks for the department’s leadership.

WITH COWARDICE AND TREACHERY, the GOP covered their tracks and nixed the urgently needed 911-type Bipartisan Commission on the Insurrection.

This was a slap in the face of the 144 police officers injured (and families of three who died) in the riot, and every cop in the nation.

The GOP gave the middle finger to these police heroes who, though outnumbered, repelled the rioters. They did their duty to save democracy. Republicans threw them, and America, under the bus.

GOP Trump Cultists are not loyal Americans but scurrying rats who collaborate with Russia.

Russia supports the GOP. It accuses America of “persecuting” the poor rioters.

The GOP has proposed or passed 361 bills in 47 states that dismantle democracy. (Brennan Center for Justice 4-1-21)

These are a giant, predictable steps to freedom’s demise. (ON TYRANNY – Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, by Timothy Snyder).

The pending FOR THE PEOPLE ACT protects that freedom and stops billionaires from buying elections. Vast majorities of Americans of all political stripes support it. Wealthy parasites pay Senate Republicans to put money over country and kill it.

To protect ourselves, we must force our U.S. Senators to pass it.

I'm Zhang-aijia. On June 6th, a midterm election was voted in Mexico to select members of the House of Representatives and the governors of 15 states. In the House of Representatives (500 seats), the ruling coalition is expected to maintain a majority. It is a form in which voters evaluated the anti-corruption measures that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has been promoting. In the economic sector, policies that prioritize the protection of state-owned enterprises may accelerate, and private enterprises may continue to face a difficult business environment. The mid-term elections are held in the middle of the six-year term of office and are positioned to represent the evaluation of the current administration. Election authorities have not announced final seats as of the morning of June 7, but the ruling coalition has 265-292 seats, according to seat forecasts as of the night of June 6. The ruling coalition will reduce the number of seats from before the election (311 seats), but it is certain that a majority will be secured. López Obrador's National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) is projected to have 190-203 seats and will continue to be the overwhelming first party. In the 15 governor elections, the ruling party candidates are fighting in favor of 11 states. "We appreciate the current administration's policies to address corruption and inequality." Accountant Arturo Rodriguez, 53, explained why he voted for the ruling party: The President of Mexico has had the privilege of not being arrested during his tenure. The López Obrador administration announced the abolition of this privilege in the official bulletin in February this year. Influential people, including the former CEO of a state-owned oil company, have also been detained on suspicion of corruption, and the public appreciates the strict stance of the current administration. In a May poll by the economic newspaper Financier, President López Obrador's approval rating was 59%, well above his disapproval (37%). Although the approval rating has dropped from about 80% immediately after his inauguration, he has consistently maintained about 60%. The ruling coalition has a majority in the Senate. This election has ensured that the majority will be maintained in the House of Representatives, and the ruling party will continue to have an environment in which it is easy to pass policies. The López Obrador administration, which was launched in December 2018, has introduced a series of measures that hinder private business. The revision of the Electricity Industry Law in March of this year revised the contract signed by the state-owned public corporation to make up for the power shortage so that it could be changed later, which was disadvantageous to private companies. In April, revisions to the labor law were decided, and dispatching personnel was prohibited in principle. This policy will increase costs for companies, so foreign companies that have factories centered on automobile parts are being forced to respond.
