1ºThe amount of Karen’s in these comments are insane!! I’m sure they never planned to start a fire, especially one that large! Gender reveals are a big thing. Your celebrating life. However them going to jail behind it and not being able to care for there not even 1yr old child is just crazy. The firefighters who were hurt/killed in this, unfortunately didn’t do there job properly or didn’t receive the proper training. Do I believe she should pay money for the damage done to homes yes, the medical bills for the injured firefighters yes. But jail NO. This was not intentional and everybody knows that.
2ºSad. However, even though it was sheer stupidity on their part, companies and stores still sell this stuff. Put a ban on these types of things and make them restricted to only those certified to work with explosives or pyrotechnics. This couple likely didn’t understand the full risks these smoke bombs carried and because they are so popular for reveal parties, thought they were safe. They had no intent on causing the fire and subsequent loss of lives and structures. I honestly feel that they should also hold the company that sold it to them liable as well and follow up with major bans or restrictions for these things.
3ºI hope all news clippings about the fire, the parents’ police reports, mugshots, and court records were added to the baby book. How many people can say their in utero party lead to the destruction of several lives and a permanent change of landscape to an entire ecosystem?
It’ll also come in handy later in life when mom and dad try to give their unsolicited advice on anything. “Mom, dad, you two set 22,000 acres of wildlife on fire just to see if my first year of my life will be pink or blue themed. I’m not listening to you about job prospects.”
4ºThis is very sad. A day that for the most of us would be a happy memory of a joyous celebration of life ended up being a tragic story of loss…. Not only are the lives of those lost, the animals, the properties, and so on…. I can’t help but feel bad for this couple because their lives & that of their unborn child now will be changed forever, too…
I have yet to read the story on how this happened, but I’m assuming it was nothing more than a tragic, horrifyingly traumatic accident. Not to be justified, but to acknowledge it as such…!! People commit crimes everyday out of pure hatred and malice, sick joys, that are charged less than these two. That poor, poor baby. Sad for all affected.
Edited to add: a smoke bomb?! Wow. I have seen dozens & dozens of those used for this purpose. What terrible luck these people had.
5ºWhat a sad thing. No one wins here. It’s hard for me to say they deserve to be locked up. Here are two young people who must be so incredibly excited and happy to be welcoming a child into the world, and now they will likely never see that child grow up. Hard to imagine something as simple as a gender reveal which nearly everyone does nowadays could destroy your whole life. Ban the sale of the device they used, make it require a license, do something, but it just seems a shame to destroy their lives over what was truly an accident. My heart goes out to all those who lost their homes, animals, and most importantly the firefighter and his family. No one wins here.
6ºI can’t imagine what their baby is gonna think some day.. maybe they should’ve named the kid Blaze. Anyways, I feel really sad about all the ppl who were impacted by this, all the innocent creatures and the beauty that got destroyed by this. Why couldn’t they just have like a smaller get together with pizza and cake and corny games? I don’t live out there , but I’m very cautious and paranoid about fire or even leaving things plugged in. I actually knew somebody who finished a cigarette and threw it on mulch and they wondered why I ran over to get it…yeah…
7ºI know this is bad for wildlife and the animals and people in general but this was a pure ACCIDENT! And the fact that it was a reveal party for newly parents who probably can’t afford now things for their new baby because of the charges which probably will have to pay some of it . Now they not only will be stressed with money but they won’t be able to enjoy their new baby. It was an accident people! I also believe in wildlife and ecosystem but when it is an accident that’s different done unintentionally. I mean there’s pedophiles and they don’t even get charge this much so our system is ridiculous.
8ºI am very glad they were charged. People seriously need to stop messing around with explosive things that they are not used to dealing with. I hope the both the the max sentence for involuntary manslaughter. All of this destruction for a gender reveal party? It's sad that people even have parties like that in the first place. The health of the baby is what should be focused on. People use these parties as an excuse to stereotype the baby before it even gets here. People also take parties like this as an opportunity to be disrespectful and ungrateful about a child sometimes simply because of their gender. There is never any good that I see to having gender reveal parties. They all seem to lead to disrespectful comments, destruction and other unnecessary outcomes. I wish people would stop doing them.
9ºI think the headline should read two people intentionally set off a smoke bomb during a party, sparking a fire that killed a gentleman and burn 22,000 acres homes and everything else. I couldn't care less what the reason was behind the smoke bomb being set off. What I do not understand is once it caught fire why they did not immediately call for help or get their butts out there and put that thing out. I think they should absolutely be charged and they should be brought to Justice for their ignorance and their arrogance in starting a fire in a dry situation.
