2ºThe United States Postal Service has long been the Republican target for “privatization/profitization” because large shipping companies that contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to political parties and to individual politicians want to take over the business of delivering everything. If they succeed in privatizing the Post Office, mail service will decline and mailing prices will go up because “privatization” is Republican code for “profitization” and as every case of privatization has shown, when a for-profit corporation takes over a public service, prices to consumers rise and service goes down.
Republicans concocted a scheme that’s deceptively called “The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act” to cause our nation’s Post Office to fail so that they can hand it over to their corporate funders. In this scheme, our Post Office is made to fund its pension plan for 75 years in advance --- something no private corporation is required to do or would ever do --- which drains vast sums away from our Post Office and takes money away from improving services. The only thing that needs to be done to cut the fake “losses” and to improve service is to do away with the phony Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act. But Congress, including Democrats, is owned and operated by Wall Street, so Congress won’t do anything to remedy this.
