This is why I don’t approve of chasing a running suspect! Innocent lives gone bcuz the laws want you to keep pursuing them and most of the time they already know who they’re pursuing bcuz the person has warrants! If you have information about the suspect or the vehicle you can always pursue them at a later date! If you’re aware of their whereabouts wait until they’re sleeping and can’t run! I remember when they finally caught my brother and he didn’t see it coming! Instead of him just turning himself in he would run every time and he was running by feet !When they caught him they told everybody else in the car to get out and walk away no questions asked! They didn’t even care about the marijuana lit bcuz they wanted my brother that bad bcuz they had been chasing him down for 3 years! Eventually you will be caught so just get it over with and stop putting other people lives in danger ️! This man from Illinois just killed his son and his son’s mother the other day in Indiana running from the police! These types of tragedies are senseless and avoidable Prayers for the woman family member’s grief and for the kid’s to pull through

This one time in Florida, the police did not chase the criminal because of the policies to help prevent this from happening. Criminal then went into a subdivision and beat to death an old lady, an uncle and someone else while a 9 yr old kid hid from the violence in a bathroom. There’s two jobs in the USA that nobody should do right now. Being a police officer and being a school teacher. No matter wtf you do, you are wrong and the public wants to tar and feather you. Prayers to those who were injured and may they catch the criminal and hold him responsible for everything that happened one this night.

For all of you jumping on the bandwagon of condemning law enforcement and saying they are responsible, have no regard for human life, etc....just how s***** are you? First of all, the one you should be condemning is the criminal, that's the individual that put the victims in that situation. Second, having regard for human life and public safety is why it was necessary to pursue. Say the officer let the guy go, the criminal now has the opportunity to kill someone, it's already happened. The criminal is let go to appease you people, then the criminal kills someone after the fact, then guess what....you same people then condemn the police for not doing enough to stop the criminal when they had the chance. Oh, and for ypu geniuses that say the cop can just get the plate number and catch them later, making it safe. What makes you think the criminal is even driving their own car. Most criminals steal their getaway cars. Yes, innocent lives were lost and it's tragic....but put the blame where it belongs, with the criminal....not the police. So gtho with your backwards logic.

this is not an obvious case of abuse of power, if we create policy that you don't pursue suspects at all then all suspects will begin engaging in high risk behavior, leading to more death. while the situation does need to be investigated to determine if there is additional things to be done to reduce risk, there is always going to be some inherent risks when criminals commit crimes and police attempt to stop them. it is also our responsibility as drivers to be aware of our surroundings, and that includes the approach of emergency vehicles of all types. it may be a bit of an assumption, but obviously if the officer was in pursuit then the suspect's car had to have been in the vicinity of these victims first and they should have been aware of at least an erratic driver even if they had not seen the police lights or heard the siren. The blame for this incident belongs on the actual criminal who endangered everyone around them with their behavior.

But seriously, why the pursuit when the police can just lay wait for the criminal using the vehicle registration number to trace his residence. Or activate a chopper that will locate the movement of the car to capture at a later time or pass a legislation that will mandates the auto manufacturers to install a cut off switch when a car exceed certain speed limit as soon as the traffic light detects over speed...

The aforementioned are amongst many more sesnsible means use without endangering lives of the innocents as a result of a trigger happy police that feels his promotions depends on catching the bad guy.

Why can't we use our common sense for heavens sake?

My condolences to the victims. We were having simular problems with high speed police pursuits where I live in Washington State until it reached a point where we passed new laws to add some checks & balances to when it was appropriate to take those sorts of risks. Maybe Texas should consider something similar?

"Pursue fleeing suspects

Several social media posts from chiefs and sheriffs suggest that they cannot pursue suspects who are fleeing the scene of a crime. This is because the new law establishes probable cause as the new standard for using physical force against someone, as may be necessary to stop someone who decides to run away.
Previously, officers could forcibly detain people based on reasonable suspicion, a lower evidentiary standard.
But the new law doesn’t mean that officers are required to just let suspects wander off.
Monica Alexander, executive director of the state’s Criminal Justice Training Commission, said if officers see someone who matches a suspect’s description leaving the scene of a reported crime, they can still chase that person and stop and detain the person under the new law.
In those situations, officers don’t have to go through a lengthy investigation to determine probable cause, because they saw the person actually leaving the crime scene, she said.
“It doesn’t require them to say, ‘Well, you know, that person looked like the person, but I’ve gotta go talk to this witness over here before I can detain that person that I saw leaving the scene,’ ” said Alexander, a former captain with the Washington State Patrol. “That’s not even logical, right?

Things are less cut and dried when it comes to suspects who flee by car, but whom officers didn't actually see leaving the crime scene. More on that later."
