This Silicon Valley city just voted to institute first-in-the-nation gun ownership requirements

The San Jose city council voted to adopt a first-in-the-nation ordinance requiring most gun owners to pay a fee and carry liability insurance. The ordinance aims to reduce the risk of gun harm by incentivizing safer behavior and to ease taxpayers of the financial burden of gun violence.

According to San Jose statistics, there were 31 homicides, out of 27,000+ crimes in 2021. But there pd page doesn't give stats regarding each homicide, so we don't know how many were gun related. How much money did it cost the city for the other 26,969 or so crimes that the tax payers are responsible for covering. Also...over 576 Domestic abuse calls (with weapons) with only 20 of them, which yes, 1 is too much, but with over 95 knives, 311 other, and over 150 with hands and fist....So tell me....how come they are only going after the guns. Just saying...

It is so ironic, the people screaming the loudest have no problem with the RIGHT to VOTE, the Constitutional Right to Vote, being oppressed in every way possible.
From gerrymandering, to closing polling places, to pulling Ballot Boxes, to interfering with mail in Ballots, to purging Voter Rolls, to not even allow water in long lines, to insisting on picture ID's.
All of which cost and obstruct and interfere and cause undue financial burdens on the poorest, the minorities among us.
However, suggest people get insurance for something they buy that can kill, like their car, boat, plane, business etc. ...... and all of a sudden it's a Right no one can dare mess with.... LOL
You people are something, what audacity.

(CNN)The San Jose, California, city council voted Tuesday night to adopt a first-in-the-nation ordinance requiring most gun owners to pay a fee and carry liability insurance, measures aimed at reducing the risk of gun harm by incentivizing safer behavior and easing taxpayers of the financial burden of gun violence.

The council in the Silicon Valley city split the vote into two parts: the first approving the bulk of the proposal, including the insurance provisions, and the second approving the fee provisions. The insurance vote passed 10-1, while the fees vote passed 8-3.
The ordinance must be approved next month at its final reading in order to take effect in August. Gun rights supporters have threatened to sue to block the measures if they become law.
Ahead of the vote, Democratic Mayor Sam Liccardo estimated that San Jose residents incur about $442 million in gun-related costs each year. "Certainly, the Second Amendment protects every citizen's right to own a gun. It does not require taxpayers to subsidize that right," Liccardo said Monday at a news conference.

Why in the hell is a fee going to become mandated for those who own firearms in the state of California for ? To punish them for purchasing a tool that's used for hunting wildlife like deer and elk and squirrels and can also be used for self-defense against a perpetrator threatening their life from being robbed ? Some politicians just love to punish people who decide to purchase a firearm with their hard-earned money. There's nothing wrong with stopping by a store to purchase a glock or a rifle at all. It's just politicians who seem to have a grudge against the 2nd Amendment.

Ha! You guys do know that the majority of shootings that occur are people that don't have a carry permit right? Please CNN how many mass shootings have been at a NRA event? Please CNN Politics how many hunters go out to the woods each year and come back alive? You do know LEGAL gum owners make up the unofficial biggest standing army right? Those same people go to the woods each year and hunt. How many go on a mass shooting spree CNN? The ONLY people that are committing gun crimes are the ones that obtain a gun illegally. Go look in the ghettos for your criminals. NOT law abiding citizens.
