5ºYevgeny Fridman I followed keenly how Putin invited Americans to conversations on how to ensure mutual security in Europe. I remember US diplomats dismissing those concerns as 'nonstarter'. My thinking was, how can real diplomats use such dismissive words when dealing with other sovereign entities? I recoiled, and began to see Americans as a haughty, reckless imperial power that never considers how their action impact others. Even a child can ask silly questions, but people don't answer in a way that humiliate them. And it seemed American mistreatment of Russia was an indirect provocation so that Russia make moves to wreck Ukraine to prevent from becoming a member of NATO. The idea seemed to be that Russia would bleed white during that war, and would never even dream of competing against America. What are we Africans supposed given our history with imperial powers, of slavery and colonization? I think it is proper to think of Russia of engaging in a very reasonable act of self-preservation, otherwise the fate that many Africans are too familiar with would befall them. And Russia needs to be strong because if they fail, China too would fail, and Africa would fare so badly because they would lack any basis for asserting for any right or consideration. That is why we pray for Russia to prosecute this war with renewed vigor and purpose, knowing that their Russian identity and freedom is at stake, and if they win, they also reclaim the identity and aspirations of those long subdued. That's my hope.
6ºStan Johnson I am glad you realize there is at least some collaboration between African governments and their western counterparts. What you don't realize, however, is that what is billed as aid money is what is sent to rulers in Africa to help fortify their positions in power. They do what America and other western powers want without question but are cruel to their own citizens, that is why people still die of curable diseases and starvation in Africa. On the other hand, Africa provides the western world with everything they need, from minerals to business opportunities. Do you know that oil and gas distribution in Africa is dominated by brands such as Shell, BP, and ExonMobil; banking include Barclays, Standard Chartered etc, etc? If American and other countries stop supplying aid which the rulers use to buy weapons from the west to maintain their hold in power, then Africans will have a chance to put in place leaders whose interests will be take care of priorities and preferences of Africa. The benefits of America stopping its interference on Africa can help raise the output from Africa tremendously, and if it happens now, I can assure you that in 20 to 25 years, African will be in a firm footing to enter into a pitched battle with American and win the fight. So, be warned against the temptations of pride. Africa is good, and will always be.
