Stranded dolphin dies after beachgoers attempt to swim with it

A sick dolphin stranded on a Texas beach died after beachgoers reportedly tried to push it back into the water so they could swim with it and ride on top of it, the non-profit Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network says

I'm confused. How exactly do we know these peoples' intentions were malicious? They were gone by the time authorities arrived and the article does not go into details about whitness accounts. Seems like they could have tried to save it by getting back to the water and couldn't, so they called for help... If anything it seems like rescuers were too slow to respond. This is still extremely sad but its not necessarily common knowledge to NOT attempt to help the animal and return it to the water.

I refuse to just assume everyone is awful so maybe this is just my bias.

Here's my second comment: society does little to nothing to educate citizenship, from day one in kindergarten and on up, on the importance earth's other living creatures play, and on the respect we all need to have for them. Nor do zoos and seaworlds, which incarcerate, abuse and use animals for human entertainment, do anything to suggest that living creatures are here only for our enjoyment, whether that be killing them, forcing them to entertain us, or provide unnecessary food for us. Society at large is partly responsible for this. No excuses for the jerks who did it. But we need to take a long look in the mirror to see how we support these attitudes.

Mike, it’s the internet nothing you say could possibly effect me. You have no idea what I think. Also, do I care if the dolphin actually died or if some moronic beach goers were responsible? No. Did I even claim that anything in the story was factual? I did not. What I said was that it’s totally expected. That I, personally, would expect people from Texas to do such a thing.

See, you don’t get the difference cause you’re not able to understand the English language apparently or interpret a statement of personal feeling and experience (having lived in Texas for almost 5 years) and you just jump to some idiotic claim and insult.

Seriously, how low is your IQ?

Jess Strunk Ohh Please give it a break ,,,This has nothing to do with race....It has to do with Illegals from every other country around the world who Break our laws just by coming over the border which by the way is illegal unless you hold a green card. Now did you receive a nice new phone get a bus ride to where ever you wanted to go, do you get free Medical-food a place to live ...So please enough of the Race crap ,now I know you are a Liberal Democrat pushing for every thing free...A Country with out Borders is not a Country....Try waliking in to some other country see how that works out..

Hmmm most stranded dolphins either ran into plastic pollutants or have viral/bacterial infection. Has there ever been a disease cross over to humans? The effort to put back into the water is a natural human reaction and in some cases appropriate. They were not experts. Despite all the environmental classes I have had and places near the ocean have never seen a sign saying if beached animals found do this or that at Galveston Bay 3 miles from my house. Marine centers say a bit more. But most people experience dolphin at one of the shows for animals and there watch dolphins being ridden. You have to look at things in context. As any one knows on the Gulf Coast those humans may have been visitors not locals. Glad it was not a pod of dolphins but just one. Most years it is June when you see a dolphin in Galveston Bay so why so early?

Christ… sure is a lot of “intent” in the headline and article, considering nobody was around it when the “real” rescuers arrived. I mean, humans can be horrible, but I’m not gonna assume that everyone there was trying to get the dolphin back in the water so they could ride it.

The media loves for their viewers to be mad… being mad = more engagement, and from the comments that have been posted already, it seems y’all are reacting exactly like they want you to.

Would you believe them if they said the dolphin died because people were sticking rocks in its blowhole and drawing tattoos on it with Sharpie markers? Cuz there’s as much evidence for that in their article as there is for their actual claims.

I apologize for our state. Out of 29 million Texans, with about 9 million in Houston and 10 million in the DFW Metroplex, we have our village idiots. Note that in Spring Break we cheerfully host idiots from all other states, the UK, and Europe. Clearly it is time for TV streaming services to revive Flipper but with an updated Green spin focusing on healthy human and dophlin behavior and not see dolphins as set on this Earth by the “Lord God Almighty” for us to post social media posts on how we got to swim with them in our LINK INCLUDED expensive bathing suit at LINK INCLUDED resort.
