An Alabama Department of Public Health employee, who was following up on a dog attack, was attacked and killed by the same pack, officials said.

Yeah, she'll get some jail time and eventually be released to live out the rest of her life.. the deceased lady doesn't get to come back though. If you're a dog owner, you take the responsibility that comes along with it. If your dogs are not properly secured and they kill someone, there should be a long minimum sentence, like 30 years at least. To be sentenced for manslaughter and get out in 15 years or less is nothing more than a slap on the wrist.. same thing with a DUI causing death. The maximum for that is 15 years for taking someone's life.. not long enough.

Laura Andrews I couldn't believe when I heard that, about "got a puppy out of a box at the jokey lot." I moved here from New Hampshire 4 years ago & have EASILY fostered/transported/rescued over 100 dogs! Its so terrible. Not bashing any specific location, it really is just a totally different atmosphere regarding pets & how they are (not) cared for by the majority. And its basic needs...food, vaccinations, shelter, water. I wish I could do more regarding laws & accountability, but in the meantime loving them & getting them ready for a forever home is the best I can do. I can say the rescues & shelters do offer alot of programs to help. Monthly there are low cost or free vaccination clinics, vouchers for free spay & neuter & even microchipping. There are groups that give free food & build fences & dog houses, so its definitely not everyone!

Faith Emmanuel Olatunde of course they do. maybe not your normal everyday dog, but in a pack mentality yes of course they attack people. I used to work in a plastic surgeons office and he was repairing a lady's face, head, neck and shoulders. This was due to three dogs attacking her as she jogged down the street. They had gotten out from a fenced in yard and were viciously attacking her when a car came by. The driver of the car bumped one of the dogs with the car and the dogs took off. She then took the victim to the hospital.

Brandy Massey I just can’t imagine the average person being able to afford (or have the energy to take care of) that many. I would love to have more but the one cat & one dog I have are about all I can handle. Just their monthly heart-worm/flea/tick preventative is $60 a month. Then food, litter, grooming, insurance, toys, and preventative vet care averages hundreds more. Also training, if needed, is very expensive. If people can afford it & are physically able to take care of them, then that’s great. But from what I’ve seen, that’s not usually case. They end up in filthy conditions, no training, with illnesses & injuries that the person can’t afford to treat properly. **For the people with a lot of animals who have the means to take care of them, this does not include you**

Dawn Marie Seeley From mine here, it’s small breed dogs—poms, poodles, etc. They are able to have a lot of them at once. And keep the litters coming. They are not well cared for or at least the mother dog isn’t, but they are pure bred.

Accidental litters, around here are usually a dog that get bred from a neighborhood dog. Mutts. And I have never heard of anyone buying an actual mutt. Not talking about golden doodles or other “designer breeds”. But regular old “Heinz 57” mutts.

Of course accidental litters can also come from two dogs in the same home that are the same breed. They of course are pure bred. And May or may not be well cared for. One would just have to know the owners.

And then you have reputable breeders whose dogs are very well cared for, good bloodlines, etc. The mother dog lives a life of luxury and the puppies sell for top dollar.

Laura Andrews I highly doubt that is the case of the dogs in the article. But, yes with any highly sought after kind of dog you will have less than reputable breeders. That doesn’t mean all “designer” or hybrid dogs are from a puppy mill. Doesn’t even mean that all you see at a flea market are from a puppy mill. One just has to be very careful and very observant of the dogs they want to purchase.

Funnily enough, I adopted a Himalayan cat rescued from a kitten mill. A local Vet’s office had gotten them. The rescue was from the north east, not the south. They had Himalayans, Siamese and Persian cats. The vet said these cats were selling at top dollar and like hot cakes. The little one I got had to be completely shaved because she was so dirty and matted and in horrible condition. It all grew back and she was a gorgeous cat. I didn’t even know a kitten mill was a thing until then.
