“This is a heartbreaking loss for us and everyone who cares about our animals." — Brandie Smith, the zoo’s director

If there was one fox there may well have been two. In a previous residence of mine, there were fox in the fields behind my house. I had a fenced-in garden outback with a 4-ft high fence around it. One day I was looking out back and I saw a squirrel running back and forth across the top of the field fence. He was pretty panicky. I could see one fox on the outside of the fence chasing him back and forth. Then suddenly seemingly out of nowhere on the inside of the fence jumped up another fox. It was history for the squirrel. Grisly.
