Carol Stevens I was that way with my ex boyfriend. First boyfriend I had in my life and I was 21 and he was so good looking. He was a bad boy, nothing good about him, did drugs, drank, cheated, etc. I lived with my ,om at the time. He talked me into driving him down to Florida and we were in Ohio...he did some sweet talking in the car and convinced me to up and leave my mom and everything in Ohio to drive him to Florida at midnight with no money on top of it....he was wanted and I knew it, but I thought it was for theft and bad checks and ATM fraud...but turns out he was molesting his 8 year old brother and lord knows what else...which if I had known any of that, no WAY would I have did what I did. Also he had me pick up a couple of his friends for the ride and I thought they just wanted to go to Florida...turns out the one was an ex murderer who just got out of prison as he served time as a child offender and have no idea what the other story was. I wind up all alone and abandoned in Florida...he gave 2 craps about me. Thankfully I made it back to my mom safe in Ohio. Love is BLIND.

All I know is the Department of Corrections on any State level has liability when staff is working with inmates they are old enough to have birthed. The agency mistake their staff's effort, commitment and knowledge on their account of high performance and abuse it instead of repositioning with higher pay to train and knowledge transfer to the right staff at the right age with the same potential to pass the heartless torch. Staff have a life too and she was grieving and her powers that be missed it. In my eyes, they positioned her in her vulnerable state to not fall short as a seasoned team member and leader who saw so much in that place specifically. She was easily swayed by attentiveness from an inmate who notices sadness in staff because inmates people watch and study all day, everyday. I mean what else helps time to pass by? Don't be naive. It's so sad to me. Everyone in that place she worked for should take hinest responsibility in the miss of this, especially that loud mouthed man ruling over the prison Vicky White helped Casey White to escape from as a lesson for "A Game" time. That man literally said he doesn't care if he gets sued for shackling the returned offender (Casey) all day everyday. Sheriff Rick Singleton said a whole lot and I heard it. I hope the FBI and US Marshalls are paying attention... I couldn't help but to.

What’s truly sad is that, she sacrificed everything for the opportunity to be with him. He wasn’t even smart enough to know, not to be driving around and out and about right now with all the coverage this case has gotten, eventually it would’ve been old news, they’d have been less recognizable. He should have known to lay low, get as far away from the state in which his escape occurred and the most off the grid location as possible, she trusted him to make sure they had a chance at a life together and he messed it all up. They didn’t even have 2 weeks to enjoy together. Even if they did get caught eventually, let’s say 2/3 years from now, it would’ve been worth it for her. But 2 weeks? I doubt she can say that it was all worth it, now they’ll have to do it the old fashioned way. Pen pals

Sarah J Block yes sure lol .... you know those Monsters called COs create worse criminals coming back into common neighborhoods! but hey... I am glad I live in a civilized country, where correctional officers have to go through a 3 year long apprenticeship. But hey, what great 'good' people go to work in prison every day to tread people without a lobby as bad as they can at any time they can. Those are plain sadists - believe me. Good people cannot do that job, those bad sadists will bully the good COs until they leave. You don't know how many crimes the DOC is covering up for those COs! I rather want a criminal leaving next to me, than a person like this.

I wish the media would stop portraying this woman as a damsel in distress . She had a 2 year affair with this man . She was an administrator and they let her do whatever she wanted . Theres no telling how many altered police reports there are with her name all over it . She had no integrity for the last couple of years that led up to this moment . Thats why she was so easily manipulated by that murderer . Accountability meant nothing to her regarding her or her lover which is why she turned the gun on herself .

I read about this in today's Los Angeles Times. I see this in a more nuanced way. In contrast to some below, I did not find it humorous in any respect. I saw it as pathetically sad, but I also saw it as normal. As a divorce lawyer, I was often caught in the crossfire of the war between the sexes. This reminded me that human beings often do things totally out of character when love goes bad. ("I'm so humiliated that I let her manipulate me like that", "I know I'm acting crazy but I just can't help it", "I'm not a selfish person", "when I saw her with him and my kids, I just went off the deep end"). My occupation was dangerous (one of my colleagues was murdered in his office by an irate husband) but it did teach me this: when it comes to that thin line between love and hate, sometimes we're just not ourselves. People who knew this corrections officer were likely shocked that Vicki White threw her life away.

Jennifer Brown No, just the opposite. I’m looking to point out that little separates American law enforcement from criminals. We’re all watching them commit heinous crimes right before our very eyes and we’re excusing it based on technicalities. We have to move away from the mentality of splitting hairs as an attempt to excuse them and move toward bringing light to the dire state of American policing. She was an officer who committed a crime and your cousin, sympathetic to her profession, made a comment that revealed that she excused the officers actions by disassociating her with law enforcement.

Vicky shot herself right away and went to the hospital in Critical condition and later died from the self inflicted gun shot wound. Casey surrender when they pulled him out. He told them to save his wife and that he didn't shoot her. She still had rhe gun in her hand. A good woman gone bad bc she believed he was innocent in some form. She risked her whole life by trusting that he wouldn't harm her and I'm grateful that he didn't. She wanted love and so did he bc he already knew his life was other. So she tried to help save his even if it meant losing hers bc she gave up her home, her great Career, her pension and her life. I'm sorry it ended this way for her she was such a nice lady that she even proved that to a convict. Too bad Casey made some terrible decisions in life. He's still young and could have developed a change of heart only the bad is the Sheriff says he'll never see the light of day again.

From CNN’s Jenn Silva

The injuries Vicky White sustained by her self-inflicted gunshot wounds are “very serious,” according to Vanderburgh County, Indiana, Sheriff Dave Wedding.

Wedding told reporters during a news conference that she's in "pretty serious shape" after the crash that led to the capture and arrest of both Vicky White and Casey White.

According to Wedding, the pair is believed to have been in Evansville since May 3.

"It's hard to believe they've been here that many days, but we're lucky that we stumbled upon them today," Wedding said. <
