Edible tape invented to stop your burrito from falling apart

US engineering students were brainstorming the perfect invention for their product design course, when lunch inspiration fell into their laps.

For all the people criticizing how useless this is, you are all missing the point. This was a project for an engineering design course, a course which is very common for many engineering disciplines. The point of the courses like these is to teach students the skills to identify problems, engineer and design a solution(s), and design experiment(s) to test the efficacy of the proposed solution(s). The students designing edible food safe tape today could be designing medical suture tape tomorrow, or any number of other things. I for one applaud these students for their work. They have bright careers ahead of them

Right before I finish the roll on my burrito, when there's just about an inch or two of flap...

I use a dull serrated edge of a knife (like an old worn out steak knife or whatever) to scratch up a line across the tortilla, parallel to the length of the burrito. Not too deep, just barely scratched and fluffed. Then I do the same sling the burrito itself, lined up right where the scratch on the flap will line up. Then I gently wet both scratches. Finish the rolling action with that seam down against the counter or cutting board. Press down gently and wait a few seconds.

Then I let it sit there for a few minutes while I warm up a skillet. Then put it seam side down first, gently pressing it again. By the time it's time to roll or flip it in the pan, it's glued shut pretty good.

Seems borderline too fussy but you can get efficient with it after a few tries
