*sigh* Guns should be handled with respect by people trained to not only operate them but understand HOW, WHY, and WHEN they should be used. Lawmakers should not have time to spend learning such things while they're supposed to be legislating just like teachers shouldn't be taken away from ... teaching.

If you want a gun, fine - please follow protocols and laws. Just considering yourself "a good guy with a gun" doesn't make you one. I don't want 16-year-olds driving cars without training just because they CAN drive at 16. If you get a gun just because you can... then friend, I really don't mean disrespect but... are you ok?

I agree but crazy lawmakers is not new. Looking up history I found this duel in 1844. On April 23, 1844, White was involved in a physical confrontation on the House floor with Democratic Congressman George O. Rathbun of New York. White was delivering a speech in defense of Senator Henry Clay, the Whig nominee for President in that year's presidential election, and objected to a ruling from the Speaker denying him time to conclude his remarks. When Rathbun told White to be quiet, White confronted him and their disagreement lead to a fistfight between the two with dozens of their colleagues rushing to break up the fight. During the disturbance, an unknown visitor fired a pistol into the crowd, wounding a police officer. Both White and Rathbun subsequently apologized for their actions. https://en.wikipedia.org/...cky_politician)

Greta Berna you'd probably be surprised at the amount of training done police officers receive and go through.
Their range and training time is often minimal, and many times lacking what it should be.
Some departments only require officers to qualify on a flat range (no movements or tactics) annually, and many don't train beyond that and if an officer wants to improve their ability, they have to take outside classes with their own money.
But who's to say that if a judge, teacher, or any other person that works in a place where individuals aren't allowed to carry for self defense life courtrooms and schools, could go through classes and be trained as well if they decide to?

Patrick Adams I didn't get my first gun till Obama took office and things got crazy. I went to a class every Wednesday for a year before getting my CCW. I never wanted to own a gun . But with things the way they are its better to be educated on how to use it safely than no training at all. And what the heck is a pro birther? If you choose to be a victim praying the cops will get there in time to save you thats your business. BTW they also carry guns and are usually only required to qualify with it once a year. I choose to defend my family. Thats the difference.

Michael Pealo you make it sound as guns are deterrents. They are not. Their only purpose is to maim or kill. You have a gun. Ok. Can you honestly say that you are well prepared to face off with someone threatening you with a weapon? Can you assess your surrounding in a flash to make sure you will not hurt any innocent bystander in a shootout? Can you for certain be ready to shoot and possibly kill someone in an instant? Can you be sure that a person you shoot isn’t another “gun toting good samaritain “? The culture of guns Americans hold dear to their… death is not what the rest of the planet needs or want. Read the 2nd Amendment and learn what the founders meant or have some scholar specialized in interpreting the laws explain it to you. You will learn that the 2A is not made for today’s society. Let the NRA know that we are in the 21st century, not the 18th.
