New photos show the chaotic scene as students escaped from the Texas elementary school where a gunman shot and killed 19 students and two teachers. Parents joined dozens of law enforcement officers outside the school, desperate to know if their children were still alive. Pete Luna, the general man

As a mother from another country looking in at this, and knowing that no one will stand up and do anything, knowing that these parents will just go ahead and send their children to school again and again and not speak up and make their voices heard, I'm angry. I'm angry for these poor children. I'm in awe that you never hear of protests, you never hear of parents saying enough is enough! You never hear of parents banning together and refusing to send their children to school until something is done. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE???? How many school shootings have to happen until parents REFUSE to send their kids?? Surly when schools are empty of children because they aren't safe, something would be done. But instead everyone turns a blind eye. They kiss their children goodbye and pray that their school isn't next. And apparently that's enough? You couldn't pay me a billion dollars to live in that country and send my child to school there. No way in hell.

It is exquisitely painful - this loss,-

and our political class in Washington will, predictably, fail us again, with the Democrats promoting a bevy of new, innocuous, worthless laws that would not, insultingly, have any success whatever in preventing this ‘acting-out’ by the mentally-disturbed among us, because they don’t want to actually discourage these mass-shootings for the political value provided to them of inflaming their progressive voter base,-

and the Republicans who refuse to acknowledge the shear incompetence and bureaucratic ennui that afflicts their important ‘law-enforcement’ demographic, who together with their judicial system, mental health, and school partners, knowing the history and violent potential of many of these pathologically-pathetic creatures before the fact, chooses frequently to, quite literally, ignore the threat, as happened in Buffalo, NY, and Uvalde.

The tragic reality we’re all living through, is that violence in the American public square is NOT something that either party is interested in seriously confronting for purely political motives.

Guns have been here since the founding of America, and so are crazy people. I’m a Gen-X’r. Based on my own personal experience and knowledge, society in America wasn’t like this back in the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s. The starting point for me on mass killings was the Oklahoma bombing and the Columbine shooting, and it just snowballed from there. Something is definitely wrong with society in America in this day and age. I believe that the contributing factors that turn these kids into killers are poor parenting and social media. We have turned into a polarized society that is driven by hate and division. And these issues are based on race, politics, gender, etc. which all of it is being absorbed by our children. The internet/social media is a gift and a curse to the world. Sadly, what we are experiencing are the negative effects of social media which the contents are generated by our own society. So here we are again with this on going cycle. Another mass killing. The president does a speech, media coverage, left and right gun debate, thoughts and prayers on social media, and then life goes back to normal until it happens again.

As the saying goes… “You reap what you sow.”

We will forget and move on. It will be added to a long list that will get longer in the future. It's inevitable. People want to kill other people. People have easy access to guns (which have no other purpose than to be used to kill). People go after soft targets.

No one wants to have better mental health access that is quickly and easily accessible and affordable.

No one wants common sense controls in place like universal background checks for any type of gun transaction no matter who is doing (private sales, estate transfers, etc ), no one wants to require licensing and training. No one wants to get rid of any insane modifications or accessories that make a gun even more deadly than it already is. No one wants to require insurance on each gun.

It's the platitude of thoughts and prayers that make people feel better. That hollow whisper of a thought or prayer that let's someone conscious feel better. Screw acting on anything that could actually benefit society at all. The Gods some people care about are the ones they vote for, or the talking heads on the news telling them what to think.

We are doomed to repeat this. If it hasn't happened in your community, if you haven't personally be impacted by this, it's a matter of time.

Mike Ables if he was required to take classes, and register and pass tests in before being allowed to purchase the gun, then chances are they would have caught his intentions ahead of time, and he also would not have been able to simply purchase the gun.

But once again their were red flags before hand. Yet nothing was done.

It's very obvious the good guys with the guns didn't do anything either. Cops stood outside attacking parents for being upset that they were just standing there while their children were being shot.

7+ cops all of them with rifles and vest and they just stood there and did nothing while kids died. An hour and half till the national guard with just slightly bigger gear and guns came till they did anything about it

Again, you don't need to ban guns to prevent gun violence.
You can also pass laws to make it easier for people to have access to mental health care, you can pass laws to making it harder to obtain firearms by require heath screenings and documents, and classes.

I can go get a gun rights now in my state, but it would take me two weeks to get my drivers license so I can drive a car.

The reality is it's easier to get a gun then it is to get a drivers license

That's just ridiculous

While you talking about the US needing to do something about Gun Laws , focus your anger at the Cops that were told to stand down outside as they were waiting for backup as those kids inside were getting shot. It was a whole HOUR before the TATICALTeam got there , then they went in at shot the gunman.

FACTS

CNN just posted the story.

So as those Kids were being gunned down help was outside standing there following orders as those Innocent Lives were taken.

A Father continued to ask the Cops for a Gun and a Vest to go in Himself , and was told no .

Ursula Aguirre I dont have anything to do with the NRA. I'm a private citizen that's educated in weapons and different calibers. As anyone who owns these things should be. You're quick to condemn something you don't know anything about, but not condemn the police who were all too ready to get out THEIR children while others kids were left behind because they were too scared to engage with an 18 year old untrained kid with a rifle.

They have higher caliber weapons, more man and gun power, and better training. But sure, wait for an Internal investigation that would NEVER lie to the people who watched it go down, right?

So, instead of taking weapons away from those who abide by gun laws allowing illegal weapons into the hands of those with criminal intent, why don’t we just have a government funded private military that is compiled of veterans to protect each and every school in the states? People trained to protect the lives of children and teachers. You don’t see many armed gunmen attacking a military base. Because it is protected by people who are armed. Instead of sending money to other countries we have no business taking care of, why don’t we protect our future doctors, lawyers, and other people who serve in the workforce the same way we protect military assets?

Robert McCarthy You clearly don’t have any valid arguments and it just shows your bias and stupidity that you think the media will drop this one just because the shooter wasn’t white Caucasian. Your country’s laws are absolutely ridiculous, you have to be 21 to buy alcohol but you can buy guns at 18, in some states with no checks and it doesn’t matter if you’re a lunatic. Women in your backwards nation are now being told what they can and can’t do with their own bodies but any idiot in your country, it would seem, can get hold of an assault weapon, countless rounds and then annihilate some children. Great job America

10ºTiago Paulino and yet you still have even higher violent crime rates in other countries that have been such weapons regardless. People still get murdered with weapons. Anybody with any bit of common sense knows that it is super easy to lie using statistics.. in fact there was a famous book about just that from back in the 50s called “ how to lie using Statistics” - I suggest you go check that one out. Why don’t you want to ban handguns? Or knives? Or even cars?? All of which account for more violence and death than the gun that you are referring to right now. You are not being logically consistent with your outrage and your demands.
