Jason Stofer lol it's a start bro. I agree with you. History is our History if we like it or not. With all this racism that is happening right now people are using it to remove anything that has to do with History that effected them in a way. All I'm doing is kicking back in the backseat and watching the show. I'm not going to waste my energy and time on any issues that happened when I was chilling in my dad's nut sack. To much going on right now and I'm not worried about what happened yesterday. Have a good day sir. Stay blessed

The Americas were settled by the Spaniards French in South America as well as Central America!
You’ve heard of the Aztecs and Mayans oh yeah maybe not they’re extinct populations wiped out by the Spaniards!!!
No one talks about that do they ??
It’s just about the American Indian for liberals!!
Here’s my point civilizations have been conquering since time immemorial!
Liberals or really democrats have no political ideology or agenda it’s about equity groups that’s their campaign message but more than that it’s about money!
Keep these groups marginalized and controversial it makes them great candidates for non profit organizations which lobby for democrats BINGO see how it works!!

Mr. Guempel,

It is incomprehensible that someone could re-interpret the history of our first and greatest national park to find the name of a mountain offensive. Seriously!

Gustavus Cheyney Doane, a soldier and explorer, served this country and was a leader of one of the most important explorations in American history. Since 1871, Mount Doane had honored the efforts of this man who was following orders of the US government.

The absurdity of this pathetic virtue signally effort to rewrite history will not change the Army’s actions to remove native Americans from their lands, nor will it change the fact that Lt. Doane successfully led this exploration into northwest Wyoming and deserved such recognition.

If wasting time, energy and tax payer dollars on worthless administrative tasks were a contest, this organization and the Biden administration would win the Blue Ribbon!

Jonathan Ross Almgren Lead the way.. all of you that feel YOU took land that nobody but everybody owned give yours away first… The Spanish, the English, the Indians, the French, the Dutch ALL fought and the United States won…the Indians ar least 25 tribes still have some of their land that they claimed they owned… so who did they take it from? They should give it back too right ? Or are they exempt because you only virtue signal? Who is taking this land from the USA? Well except your land you’re giving yours away … right? SMH!

Steve Ritnour No tribe is getting any land - which is a completely different conversation we can have. A committee dedicated to naming things decided to rename a mountain in a National Park. So, that happened. Not to any one tribal name. Just to something better - First Peoples Mountain. That's all.
And yet, here you are claiming that a completely nonpartisan committee whose actual job it is to name stuff is somehow "the left" and they want to "name things after those who lost" - meaning you think that colonizers murdering those who were innocent and just defending their land are the ones who should be rewarded, and those defenders should be somehow packed into a modern day political party despite living in this location, like you said, thousands of years ago and having no political agenda of their own.
It's always an amazingly hot take from the side who loves to wave around Confederate Flags to go "haha only the left loves losers" anyway. But that is a fresh new argument with a lot of nuance.

Never really was a good concept to memorialize people who committed genocide. Nor traitors, people guilty of treason, mass murderers or the like. Just as bad is trying to find excuses for them and their actions. Even then, they knew better.

President Eisenhower was one of the very first American leaders (An old school Republican) that actively put a stop to much of it.

He intensely disagreed with naming Army Bases after Confederates, he thought that was an abomination. He had even more intense negative feelings about Confederate statues. He even went so far as to suspend General Patton in Europe for slapping an injured soldier in a field hospital.

Indeed, the very first notable so called "woke" American was the top commanding general in WWII and a former President of the US. And he happened to be an old school Republican. Back when they used to truly hate white supremacist and made laws against them.

That party sure took a turn for the worst after Eisenhower didn't they.

Interesting concept, almost like looking at Mount Everest and wondering why a mountain in the middle of Asia has a Western name. Just imagine China goes around to dig up White Colonialism of Asia, and does the same thing for Africa. Your trying to define China the same, but China hasn’t traveled anywhere and murdered millions, looted and stole from other countries. Why did the United States go to other countries that has nothing to do with us and kill people. Oddly enough that was the messaging from boomers who left and fled the country instead of fighting in the Vietnam War. These are the globalist of today, that is trying to do what they ran away from.

"We heard our Blackfeet sisters screams as they ran to the river on that cold January morning in 1870," Rodgers, also an adviser on the Rocky Mountain Tribal Council, said. "We heard their cry for justice. We sought justice. We sought an accounting. We sought a reckoning with history. It has taken far far too long for this journey of healing to arrive."

Dude in 2022 saying he heard the cries of people in 1870.
Dude straight up has magical powers and can listen to the past! Woah! Talk about a wasted talent. Can literally listen to the past and he only uses this amazing gift to petition to change the name of an insignificant and uninhabited piece of rock….

10ºAsiga Wilson Yeah like in Spain… tear down all the buildings the Black Muslim Moors built during their 700 year enslavement of the Hispanics on the Iberian peninsula! Oh then all the European towns and lands renamed by the Romans, Mongols, and Arabs…. Oh then the towns inside China like when Zedong murdered 50,000,000 people … Oh then ALL the Americas renamed by the Hispanic invaders renaming and creating all the borders in the ‘New World’ … oh then what about the planets? Don’t forget to rename them… oh and vehicles too… oh and all the towns, cities, etc that was named after anyone else beside you….When the Africans renamed Egypt and the Europeans, the Asians, the Africans and the Indians and the …. Insert name here….did.
