John Wenzlaff I own guns but mine have a purpose on the farm and none go beyond that. I don’t carry off the farm. Coyotes and varmints. Those same standard weapons can defend the homestead just the same. I’m for some kind of answer to stop the madness. Like for instance why can’t all gun purchases be on a thirty day cool down period before you take it home? Or private sales be done in a local police station with both parties and the gun verified? Mental health funding and harder sentencing for violent crimes ? It’s got to stop at some point.

Robby Reiter I hunt, I comp shoot, I target shoot, I defend myself and my property with firearms if ever necessary. What I do with my right is none of your business, what I purchase with my income is none of your business. I’m not sitting here telling you how to live your life am I? So why you gotta stick your nose in my choices?

Furthermore the average response time for police in cities is 3-7 minutes. The amount of damage that can be done my family and children in those 3 minutes isn’t worth the wait. I can sweep and clear my house in 60 seconds. Would you put your own child’s life on the line waiting for police? Or would you protect what is yours?

Robby Reiter human rights matter, do not put words into my mouth. But so does the right as Americans to defend ourself from all enemies foreign and domestic. We have the right to own firearms and keep them as we see fit, just as we all have the right to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. These are undeniable rights, and you nor does any politician have the ability to take this from us. You have shown little knowledge on firearms and I’m hoping you will take sometime to actually educate yourself. But do not infringe on others rights because you are intimidated by an object you do not truly understand.

Casey Sawyer Nope. Wrong again.
A gun, being considered property in the eyes of the law is protected by the 5th amendment.
Works for me. I’m grandfathered in no matter what…
Unfortunately though,
black men were prohibited from owning property and were property until 1863 & 1866 respectively. Horrible right??
Then the Emancipation Proclamation (1863) and 1st civil rights act (1866) granted them their rights to not be property and then to rent or own property.

Married Women were prohibited from owning property and were basically considered property under Coverture until the Married Women’s Property Act of 1848.

So I’ll ask again. Should we heed the founders infinite wisdom on all matters and follow everything in the Bill of Rights as written and intended & revoke the right to keep and bear arms from black men and married women? OR acknowledge that times change and our laws should follow suit?

Casey Sawyer Again never once said I was trying to take away guns. You projected that because you heard thing like make it harder for criminals and crazies to get. Unless you are a criminal or a crazy you shouldn't have a problem with making it harder for them to obtain.

If guns were more expensive, registered/insured, require a license that you had to renew, require completion testing/classes/training to get, limited to lower calibur/capacity, and illegal to purchase outside of your city/state it eould be exponentially harder for criminals to get. Yall act like criminals and potential mass shooter are some brilliant masterminds with unlimited fund and planning abilities.

But nah yall would be mildly inconvenienced so lets just leave it the way it is.

This is actually a good step. It concentrates on mental health and people getting help. Cause no gun has ever jumped up and killed people on its own.
But still idiots think magazine capacity is the issue. Who decided what high capacity is, a dart board? If a gun comes with a 17, 20 or 30 round magazine, that's the standard capacity not high
The only reason 10 was picked is because that's the max avaerage capacity for a 1911 and they didn't want to pass off to many old folks.
And life is not a movie, the 1 second difference in a mag change isn't saving anyone from a crazy shooter. You really think someone using 1 30 round mag instead of 3 10 round mags make a difference you have never handled a firearm

Derek Glennon I literally said outside of hunting no one should have anything with real stopping power........ I also fully understand bullet velocity and impact damage that even a small caliber weapon can cause. I also said its a COMBINATION of calibur, velocity, capacity, etc but you ignored that to try and prove that an assult weapon is still reasonable for someone to own. They just aren't. They are designed to kill efficiently and quickly (which is what they have been repeatedly demonstrated to do).

Just because you are responsible with a gun doesn't mean everyone is. We, as a society, have to legislate guns (well regulated) with that in mind. Your mild inconvenience or inability to have a shiney high calibur gun is not and never will be more important than an innocent life. Period the end

Scally Cowell if you are throwing out enough red flags to have a judge order your weapons taken away under red flag laws.....you shouldnt own a gun.

"Home Defense" is the most laughable reason to own a gun in a rural area tbh. You think a criminal is going to break in your house in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the day when you are there? Not at night or when there is no one around? Your better off having a dog on most rural properties. Please use some common sense. If it makes you feel safer whatever but I higjly doubt you would be effective in any shape way or form in a situation where a gun is actually needed.

Derek Glennon You really are comparing a single shot bolt action weapon to a semi auto gas mag based weapon?? Lmao ok you know less about guns than I do huh?

Its not about winning or losing, being "right" or "wrong", or whatever thing you are trying to so to make yourself feel better. Its about the thousands of innocent lifes lost from gun violence that could have been saved with common sense gun laws.

Anyway Ive got better things to do than continue this with you. The innocent lives lost already and the ones in the future are on you and your ilk. You should be ashamed but obviously shame and common decency are to hard of a concept to grasp.

10ºRobby Reiter so let’s take the ar round. A standard 5.56 fmj. 55g bullet with 2800fps. Your standard 7.62 hunting rifle is 120-168g bullet, with 2400-2800 fps. Velocity is the same with more impact power.

The assault style round you are referring too has actually been discredited as it lacks the ability to knock down targets on the battlefield. Now an unsuspecting person is a different subject I will give you that.

Ballistically speaking however, most hunting rounds of not all have more impact than a 5.56/223 as it’s just a .22 caliber bullet. So i applaud your effort, but your knowledge is still incorrect.
