2ºRuss Mercer first off out gun problem is much bigger than "criminals" getting guns. The biggest reason they do get them however is the extreme easy it is in many states to get them. Why is the US pretty much the only developed country with a gun problem? Why is the US the ine that has over 40k gun deaths annually? Why is it that the US has have more Americans die by guns since 1968 than all have died in all our wars combined? The answer is our idiotic gun culture where even smallest attempt at intelligent control on guns is met with severe push back.
3ºLynn Marble You realize that traffic stops are the most dangerous thing we do, and are the number one call where cops get hurt or killed right?
In 22 years as a cop I have never once had an incident with someone legally carrying a firearm on a traffic stop. Not once.
But I’ve almost been killed by someone who was illegally carrying one.
When a cop pulls someone over, they have no idea who that person is, if they are wanted, if they are armed, or what their intentions are. You as a 110lb woman makes no difference if you have an illegal gun and plan to use it. At least if we know you are legally carrying, we know you went through the right steps to do so.
4ºCharlie Smith As a cop, I can assure you they are wrong. Virtually every state shows if a person has a concealed permit when you run their information through DMV, and the person receives a physical permit to carry with them to show an officer if they encounter one.
Even when you first pull a car over, it will automatically tell you if the owner has a CCP so you know before you even approach the car.
Not sure what they are talking about in this article. Cops in general are not worried about people who have their guns legally, it’s the ones who aren’t supposed to have one and we don’t know if they do or not that is a problem.
5ºThis is simply a CRAP story, and a made up complaint.
Consider the following:
SOME permits are issued, so SOME people are able to legally carry concealed in New York.
And under the law, the police cannot search you or stop you MERELY to see if you are carrying a gun, to check if you have a permit. They require reasonable articulatable suspicion that a crime has been committed.
So someone carrying a concealed firearm, legally or illegally, would have to commit ANOTHER crime to even be asked if they were carrying.
This is simply a made up claim, and CNN should be ashamed, if that is even possible.
6ºAmy Fitzgerald the FBI had that guy on there radar why don’t you tell them . Why don’t you ask them why they didn’t do there job . Why hasn’t the FBI DOJ OR ANY OF THEM arrested Hunter Biden for lying on his gun application. Why just because he is a democrat. I wonder if Trump Jr would had lied on his gun application would he be serving time or walking free like HUNTER Biden . Most of the mass shooters have been on the radar of the FBI . So start with them . And why wasn’t his name flagged when he purchased the gun . When you purchase a gun they send it off to do a background check . I know been there serval times . And this is done Every time a person buys a gun .
7ºKathy Stevenson I agree with you Kathy. It’s pretty complicated system. So many are stolen from cars, residences, police officers etc. it’s often that a gun is stolen and the victim doesn’t know the serial number so all you have is a description, or it’s just not reported. There are ways to back track them but often law enforcement can’t until it’s used in a crime. It’s amazing when we find guns, or shell casing that can be tied to guns, and you can see where that specific gun has traveled a long ways and been used in many shootings. Gang members frequently rotate them through different towns and states.

The police failed us in several instances, if a teacher decides they want to carry a firearm, and rules on that can be determined, like no off body carry like in a bag, or kept in a drawer, or locked in a biometric safe which only the teacher and the principles fingerprint will open, why not let them?
They could be trained by local law enforcement.
They don't have to act like a swat member and go looking for the shooter, but even an inexperienced person could shoot a threat when they burst through a door. At least they would have a fighting chance.
The federal government put up money for schools in response to covid, and only a small percentage of that was used, more money could be allowed if need be for training and certification.
The problem of teachers buying supplies with their own money is a side issue that also needs to be addressed.

And after overturning Roe, Clarence Thomas has made it clear other Fourteenth Amendment-guaranteed rights, like birth control, gay marriage, and gay relationships will soon suffer the same rollback.
This is GOP tyranny, exercised through illegitimate, partisan, extremist Supreme Court hacks and must not be allowed to stand!
