As crisis after crisis has engulfed Boris Johnson in recent months, rivals have been plotting behind closed doors to replace him.

If the choice for the next PM is solely based on ‘who is the most qualified’ then Rishi Sunak the former Chancellor of the Exchequer is the clear choice.

The media at present is shining a light on Ben Wallace MP The Defence Secretary. Ben Wallace ??? Who? He has no public recognition.

He is being pushed because the YouGov poll of Conservative members in the country have put him in the lead as their choice for PM. The 1922 committee chairman for the Conservative back-benchers says that they want someone “you can have a pint with”.

The natural choice in any previous election for leader would naturally go to the number 2 in cabinet and that would be the Chancellor.

He has shown himself to be immensely qualified in the job and has the necessary experience of government.

If there is a clear choice without the ‘baggage’ of race, class, wealth etc then Rishi Sunak would set a precedent and historic choice for PM of the United Kingdom.
