A New York bodega worker is facing murder charges after fatally stabbing a man who attacked him

The bodega clerk was working at the Blue Moon Convenient Store in Upper Manhattan when he got into a deadly altercation with a man.

Many of you are naive when it comes to black and brown defendants in the justice system. We don’t get the same grace when it comes to standing your ground. It’s not about New York. This happens all over America. We’re generally viewed as GUILTY until we can prove innocence. To all the people of color, you better tread lightly when you decide to pull that trigger or take someone’s life. You might be doing 15 to Life, in America. Especially, if you can’t afford a top notch attorney. If you can walk away, do so. Going death mode is the last resort.

I'm all for defending yourself but there is a very clear story here. Before you get your unicorn panties in a bunch let me say that I am not certain I would not have handled it in a similar way. The story states that the thug went behind the counter and started pushing him. Being pushed does not mean that your life is in danger. Being pushed is just that. He wasn't being punched or kicked. Well not yet. I am sure it would have escalated to that eventually. But being pushed does not justify stabbing someone 5 times. You can defend yourself to this extent if your life is in immediate danger but being pushed does not mean you are going to die. I wish him all the best and I hope he finds a way to get a decent lawyer and not some idiot public defender.

Sandy Goldman It’s so sad. Heartbreaking I never thought our country would come to this. Division of Red states Blue states. There was a time if you were of a different party you had respect. I never heard about all this Division until trump monster came to power. I never ever thought a monster like him would. But Hitler did. So where do we go from here. We are the big joke to the world. We need to be the United States but I think trump has damaged this country too much to fix it in a short time. Too many people believe his lies. This is bigger than Watergate. He must be criminally prosecuted. These are trumps people digging his grave under oath

Olive Thomas Its a compelling statistic especially when it’s taken out of context. When you consider that young black men commit 48-52 percent of all violent crime in America according to consistent tear after year national statistics, and that a black male 18-26 is 8x more likely to be convicted of a violent felony than the average American, you start to see why there is more interaction with the police. If racism is solely the issue, why are Indian and Asian young men actually under-represented in arrest and convictions compared to their population percentage? Think for a moment, have you EVER seen a viral video of an Indian or Asian man running from or fighting the police?

Patt Joy Oh, are you talking about Kyle Rittenhouse? Ha... did you not hear? He WAS charged. That's what the whole trial thing was about. You know, where someone is charged, taken to court, etc. I guess that's difficult for you to grasp since you're caught up in your agenda.

What you probably intended to say is that he should have been found guilty. If that's the case, I'd love to hear what you think he should have done when he was attacked. Was it his job to take a beating or get shot himself, even though he hadn't attacked them men chasing him down and threatening to kill him? In all seriousness, put away your high level, bumper sticker statements and try adult conversation. You're lost and out of touch, and at this point you're babbling nonsense.

Brian Carpio I’m the exact person you want to protect you and all… we learned a long time ago trust no one. I understand and seen things that many sometimes will never see. Someone walks into your home cause your door was open you telling me you will tell them to please leave? While your kids are scared yelling your wife yelling and they just there for no reason? You won’t stand your ground and protect your family? Do you know him or why he’s there? Are you gonna wait till he pulls out a firearm first or knife and hurt your family then you return fire? If so then you my friend are not a real Man, a horrible father and husband and not a protector in life. I rather go to jail to know I protected my family in that situation.

The issue isn’t the crime, it’s who is selectively punished. Many of the issues are due to the criminal justice system. This study confirms the legacy of racism in our criminal justice system from slavery to Jim Crow to mass incarceration. “A 2010 study found that white Americans overestimate the share of burglaries, illegal drug sales, and juvenile crime committed by Black people by approximately 20-30 percent.” The evidence for racial disparities in the criminal justice system is well documented. The disproportionate racial impact of certain laws and policies, as well as biased decision making by justice system actors, leads to higher rates of arrest and incarceration in low-income communities of color.

Yes the store owner was defending himself, but we don't know to what extent the interaction between the girlfriend and the store owner went, apparently it wasn't physical, but it could of been implied, some of those bodega owners can be real disrespectful, I've seen it, card declines, girlfriend ask him to try again , he does, and girlfriend insists there's money, and it's on, with the store owner threatening you to leave store, and a few character assassinations, she leaves to go get her boyfriend, the boyfriend came in hot, which was wrong, violence wasn't the way, at the point of her stabbing and owner, it turns into self defense on her part, even though the boyfriend was wrong, he was stabbed almost 5 times and was probably no longer a threat, with neck and chest wounds,

Robert Melnyk I agree with you 100% .They are blaming the DA for this man arrest .What people fail to understand is that the DA does not order or make an arrest that is the duty of the police who is investigating. The DA is the prosecutor and if and when the investigation is complete and the case file is submitted to him he can then decide whether to proceed with the charge or ask the court to dismiss the charge. For the mayor to be interjecting himself and saying that he should not be charged and blaming the DA is a bad precedent. He should be questioning the Police Commissioner as to why the police made the arrest??

10ºThis is one of the most terrifying things I have read and I keep asking myself why these prosecutors are going after ppl who are clearly defending themselves. Why would they do this? This is an example of a member of government being tyrannical. If you don't the DA has done wrong, I ask you to put yourself in the shoes of the employee and what you would have done. If ppl are afraid to protect themselves against criminals, what will effect will that have on society. They want to take away any chance law abiding citizens have to defend themselves. Its terrible.
