Lori Wilson I would suggest you read the report. From the report, it is concluded that the students were already shot prior to police arriving and that even a "flawless police response would not have saved most of the victims". Were there mistakes made? Sure. But it didn't begin with the police. It begins with the gun laws (or lack of) in the United States and specifically in Texas who last year passed a law to allow persons to carry a gun in public without a permit. The U.S. unlike every other country in the world think their right to bear arms trumps public safety and human life. This is and will continue to be the result. Assault weapons are designed for one thing - to be killing machines. It's ironic that in a state like Texas, that staunchly claims mass shootings can be stopped, not by gun laws, but by school lock downs and armed teachers, had a school that had unlocked entrance doors, broken interior locks on the classroom, and a school notification system that didn't work. The state of Texas failed these students. It's just more convenient to push the blame onto law enforcement. Do not bother responding with lame excuses, it's a waste of your time and mine.

What is worse, IMO, is that according to our Supreme Court, police DO NOT have to protect people. These cops were under no obligation to keep these children from harm. Only in USA!!!!

“Neither the Constitution, nor state law, impose a general duty upon police officers or other governmental officials to protect individual persons from harm — even when they know the harm will occur,” said Darren L. Hutchinson, a professor and associate dean at the University of Florida School of Law. “Police can watch someone attack you, refuse to intervene and not violate the Constitution.”

The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that the government has only a duty to protect persons who are “in custody,” he pointed out.

The people who put their lives on the line who rushed to the school to save live , they did their job well against all odds miscommunication, radios not working , PA system not working , and human error, but through it all they stop the mass chaos of news media and other running through school and parking lot endangering the themselves , teachers and students no telling how many other lives they saved that day. Not one ask for it or received a thank you for responding . Instead based on the rumors, gossip and opinion of the news media they have been judged guilty by the very people who lives they saved.

I absolutely believe that every single one of them need to face reprimand and the police chief should be in jail & lose his pension. My cop husband always told me if there is a school shooting happening here to “know I am in that school. You don’t have to wonder if I am in there…dont call anyone to find out if I am in there….because I WILL be in there saving babies” “ No order from a superior to stand down or waiting for back up happened.
We should not forget about the many cops that are serving the community every day that are very good men. Coming from a law enforcement family, (My Father, husband, and both our sons) we ALL feel that this is an absolute embarrassment to law enforcement as a whole & no excuse whatsoever will EVER satisfy why those cops stood there & did nothing. There are cops that are heroes out there. The situation has made us sick

Lillian Beltran nobody was ever going to be forced to carry a gun.

Some teachers I know wanted too.

Let me ask you this. Why do shootings happen at schools, movie theaters, and malls?

Why don’t they happen at gun stores, shooting ranges across the country, police stations, and gun shows? There are guns everywhere at these places.

Because schools are known to be “gun free zones” and therefore any criminal will meet minimal resistance.

If it was common know that EVERY school in this country had someone who was armed and trained and prepared to protect children I doubt most of this mass shootings would happen.

It happens there because it is the easiest place to get away with it.

Make sense?

Johnny Walker they aren’t using the outdated sophistry of the late 18th century

Limit your rate of fire to 2 rounds/minute (usual rate for militias around 1800 - professional British soldiers got the rate up to 4/minute under the changes in doctrine brought in with the reform of Sir Arthur Wellesley etc), and reduce effectiveness to 75 metres, and that is what Jefferson was used to.

Automatic fire had been invented, but had been unsuccessful (such as the Puckle Gun) and it wasn’t until about 1821?ish that breach loading cartridge was even thought about (in France)

You still haven’t answered that question, though.

And that, in itself, is answering for you.

G.j. Winfield Did you fall on your head, lady? Cowards stood there for 72 minutes listening to babies die-
Senate had zero to do with these Cowards standing around. All those Cowards (none are deserving of the title “Officer”) had to swear an oath-to serve and protect against foreign and domestic violence/threats-Cowards stood there idle for 72 minutes, Lady! Doing absolutely nothing! How’s that the fault of the Senate.
Federal Law dictates “the shooter must be naturalized-taken out-end of that discussion.
Cowards need to be fired. Loss their pensions, “serve” many years in prison.

Agreed Senate must do their jobs-passing better control and mental illness Laws and Funding.

“It’s a joke. They’re a joke. They’ve got no business wearing a badge. None of them do,” Vincent Salazar, grandfather of 11-year-old Layla Salazar, who was among those killed, said Sunday. I will have to agree with Mr. Salazar that we have here the COWARDLY COWARDS COPS in Uvalde led by by the most incompetent, self centered, BS and overweight cop in Pete Arredondo. The best thing that these cops can do right now is resign because they are more interested in collecting a check than serving to protect the public. In turn, the District Attorney needs to now arrest these cowardly cops for derelection of duty and incompetency to serve the public. Pete and his associates have FAILED ON EVERY LEVEL. It is time that they now be LOCKED UP! https://apnews.com/articl..._source=Twitter

Administrative leave? So leave until thet decide hes not guilty then? Hes a coward and should be fired ASAP, do not pass go, do not collect $200. If you cant or wont do your job, there are others who are more than willing to do so.....smh. 'good guys with guns should be there to stop bad guys with guns' thats what we keep hearing about these, but when it comes right down to it the good guys didnt do a goddamn thing except stand around letting the bad guy kill 21 CHILDREN. I hope they're happy. The first civil suit over this has already happened, and my guess is there will be more. I really hope it was worth it and I hope you saved lots of cash, you will need it. And they wonder why folks got problems with cops..I dont know maybe you all can tell them.

10ºThe day following the shooting (Wednesday), when Abbott and DPS offered up the mystery hero’ cop who engaged the shooter, it was clear there were lots of missing pieces in what actually happened. By that Friday, DPS head had thrown local agencies all the way under the bus. But what was beyond odd was why didn’t DPS officers take command? They’re the top law enforcement agency in the state. They didn’t need anyone to say ‘hey, you’re in control!’ Someone only needed to take charge. DPS, they were there on the scene early on. I’m glad to see the report call them out, too. Maybe this isn’t the best analogy but here goes: imagine a company commander gooning up mission which needlessly costs lives of and jeopardizes the overall mission. A higher ranking officer arrives but fails to insert himself or herself to take control and avert further loss of life. Whether this higher ranking officer is of the company commander’s unit matters little. That DPS head, the top law enforcement agency in Texas, threw the local authorities under the bus, while trying to stay clear from the back-blast shows a horrible lack of accountability and responsibility.
