1ºThis country began by fighting with guns. We won our freedom from the British Rule by doing exactly that and we have continued to do so to protect our freedom and our GOD given rights. Yes, we have more shootings now than ever before, but there are many reasons for this and way too many to list. Just a few, lack of parenting, lack of teaching kids what is right or wrong, not disciplining your kids, news media 24/7 given these idiots 15 minutes of fame which creates copycats, no one is held accountable for their actions and population as a whole wants to blame the gun as if it thinks for itself. Yes, I grew up with guns all my life served in the military. As a kid we didn't have weak minded kids that got their feelings hurt over simple things, we were tough, rough but respected authority, obeyed the law and didn't blame the world for our problems. When we got mad at someone, we would fist fight and most of the time that was it. Easily we could have used a gun because we carried them in our vehicles, and they were displayed in the back window, but we were raised better back then and taught right from wrong. We didn't have females popping out babies like an assembly line to get more welfare assistance. There were not as many single moms, fatherless kids as we have today. Parents parented back then because there were no video games to stick your kids in front of, so you didn't have to be a parent. We want to blame the guns, maybe we should take a good hard look how we are as a society these days. Everyone is owed something, entitled, confused as a person, more mental issues than ever before, lack of coping skills and so on.
2ºBill Falcone “so rare that they cause attention” I am 20 years old, I learned what a lock down was the first day of school. I am out of school and working and we still learn active shooter drills. There may be a time when I have to announce over the intercom at my Walmart that there’s an active shooter in my building. I know this because I am first shift supervisor for the cashiers. It’s sad every Walmart employee knows what to do and are refreshed on how to react every three months. Because it’s so rare I am required to pay attention to every person passing by me, listening to every person I can to make sure we aren’t threatened. Even while I’m on a register and I’m not in charge at that time I still have to listen. Every small noise, every silent person walking by I have to acknowledge and look at them.
In eight grade my school made us attend a hunter safety course, where we also learned to disarm active shooters. The heavier the object to hit them with the better.
I say they happen so often they don’t get attention. I feel like I’m hearing about them everyday. When I say something about it to my parents they say “oh no” and continue on.
We should be angry and hug people we love tighter than our guns. My parents own guns and the last time I saw them was when I was a toddler and we went shooting clay pidgins. They could care less if they’re taken away because it’s an in adamant object. It has no feelings the only purpose is to kill. It won’t cook you dinner, or help with the dishes.
3ºMichael David McLinn Just remember in the greatest nation on the planet thousands of crimes rapes and murders are stopped by law abiding citizens with firearms according to the CDC under Obama that the liberal media doesn't want to report on because they hate our country. Just don't look at all the liberal Democrat run cities and the death they cause with their liberal policies like DC Baltimore Detroit. We're a great nation in which democrats instead of focusing on the criminals that commit over 90% of our murders in our country after they've been released from prison they when I tag guns and only report on that.

4ºCici Lenae oh well, since over 50% in the U.S. are clearly on an evolutionary trip backwards (gun laws, education, certain supreme court issues) I shouldn't discuss shootings with people who are convinced that "only a good guy with a gun can take care of the bad ones with a gun". Sometimes I get the impression they even take pride in it. The more ruthless the better. As long as it's not a primary school class or a really high number of victims everything is just fine and dandy. Nothing to complain about... move on. Every bloody fact checking explains lower crime rates with strict gun laws in most every other country. Oh well, as I said: must be an evolution thing.

That’s just in a 4 year period. Yes there were mass shootings even in the 80’s. I think news coverage being more widespread and the internet helped it progress more into what it is now. But it was still an issue then unfortunately.
Also to add not just at schools too, mass shootings definitely happened then. Being able to carry at school obviously didn’t provide any real protection.

They don't know the numbers they don't care about the numbers they don't care about the facts they care about power there's sick people and I have the numbers to back it. You see good people like me who despise liberals because they're letting people die actually think we should focus on the 90% of murders that are done by repeat criminals released from prison. You see that's what smart conservative people believe in not disarming law abiding citizens but getting criminals that kill people off the street
7ºBrandi Baldwin-Harr that rhetoric of liberal cities being the issue is so ignorant and borderline criminal when used by politicians just to stay in power. Crime increases with the cultural and economic complexity of major cities all around the world. A factor of city growth is education, and with education comes a more progressive way of thinking, therefore the majority of the big cities across the world lean towards progressive/liberal political causes. Even in deep red states like Texas, every major city is Democrat. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin. All of them vote blue. But that has everything to do with education and nothing to do with politics.
8ºNicole DuCharme it’s all the United States fault. Every time. Let’s use Mexico as a example. 200 plus years as a country and still can’t figure out how to prosper. It’s so bad that Mexicans have been fleeing their homeland by the millions for decades. I know it’s America’s fault. 9ºIt’s crazy that students have to learn active shooter drills. Even crazier when people put things into perspective and realize that the vast majority of schools are incredibly safe places. They’re usually safer than the kids own homes and neighborhoods (where these issues originate). There are approx 50 million k-12 students in the US and only a small handful of active shooter events and most of those occur outside of the schools themselves. Thanks to social media these events are beamed into the public’s heads 24x7x365 and while people should of course be vigilant they shouldn’t be scared of everything that moves.
