Since shark skeletons are primarily made up of soft cartilage, most of their bodies are very unlikely to fossilize. They never found a fossilized skull or even the jaw bone of megalodon.
The jaws on display at museums are reproductions based on scaled up versions of the great white shark jaw.
They assume a lot of the megalodon’s biology because it’s tooth is a scaled up version of the great white shark.
The teeth and the few fossilized vertebrae are all they have to go on.
