Traffic lights, paper money, legal marriage, property ownership are all social constructs. They don't exist as a real thing. But breeze thru a red light. Take stuff without paying. Claim the starlet you have a crush on is your woman, or move into your neighbors house and claim it's yours. See how that works? My being mixed race has made me the person I am, even if race does not exist. You being whte has made you the racist person you are, even if race does not exist. You have used many of the common tricks that racists have used over generations. I've seen and been subject to most, if not all of them. You can't tell me that race doesn't exist when there are places I can't safely go in my own state. Yakima. Spokane. Forks. Or that I wasn't harmed by being called n*gger. Or I wasn't harmed by being beaten up by whte kids in school. Or being red lined. Or having a whte neighbor tell me to move out of the area I have lived in since childhood, since I have no 'roots' in the neighborhood. As I said, I have seen and heard how 'educated' whte people talk about Black people, until I reminded them that being Black is more than the pheonotypes they are obsessed with(I worked in a large university library system for 30 years). Its culture, history, world view, experience, pride, shame, joy, anger. You claiming not to be white because you are human? What you are really saying is 'Only whte people are human'. Like I said ur racist. Look up ur, if you don't understand it. Look up phenotypes while you are at it, and take a glance at racial gas lighting too. Which is another old old trick you racist folks try to do.

I’m thrilled that we are one of three white familles on my block. The children on my block are exposed to multiculturalism through natural childhood play. WHICH THEY WILL NEED IN THIS MULTICULTIRAL WORLD! White kids are running over to a black neighbors house trying to score treats when they cook out. They all head over here to score popsicles when it’s hot. One little boy goes home to pray 5 times a day and no one finds it “pearl clutching”. The Latino siblings across the way are teaching all the other children Spanish.

3ºLinda Fechter as a society we absolutely MUST do better NOW If we want to see better. To answer your question, no they're not the same. A Black child being raised to believe that he's inferior only needs to turn on the TV and not see a representation of himself. He/she only need to look at the community in which he's being educated and recognized that he doesn't have the same resources as their White counterparts. The cues that a Black child is picking up on, are subtle (in some cases glaring)! No they're not the same, but thank you for the dialogue. It's conversations like this that starts progress
4ºMalcolm Graham it is a collective US problem. I totally agree on that. We value certain neighborhoods more than others, even when the house is identical. You cross the main street from my house and that neighborhood’s prices are at least 100K lower than mine, but that has nothing to do with race (in this case, the race between the two neighborhoods are almost identical). It’s merely supply and demand, and our neighborhood is more desirable even if there are identical houses; there are some intrinsic differences between the two neighborhoods. And I can guarantee that anyone looking at comps for our house should only be looking at houses within our neighborhood.
That being said, when the only difference is race (and everything else being equal), that is very disappointing.
ETA: I did not realize the loan provider contracted the appraisal. Still seems like they just hired the wrong guy, and since that guy isn’t an employee, it seems their fault lies with the fact that after it was brought to their attention, they failed to properly act.
5ºRon McClain, you want someone to answer? I will. First I will tell you that isn't the way property taxes work. You don't hire your own appraiser, someone from the state or country does it. In your case it's the Montgomery County Tax Assessor. It is not calculated from some private assessment.
If you had bothered to read the article, they were low balled on their appraisal and therefore refused a home equity loan. When they had the same appraiser come out the second time and met with what he thought were White Home Owners, he appraised it $300,000 higher. I don't expect you to actually comprehend anything I've written, but you asked for it.

Please, keep quiet and learn through despair of people who actually experienced first hand racism with consequences such as losing home value, not getting a job, being lynched or worse, it is not your history so you do not know besides what you read to make you feel good, the day you will walk a like in black people shoes you will come back apologetic of all the unnecessary white privilege. Lucky for the rest of us not all caucasians think like you, there are quite good ones out there, the silent majority that are also fed up with all these bigots making everyone feel hell on earth.
7ºNancy Kolde this wasn’t real estate people. This was loan finance people. The lender hires the appraiser. If this had been a sales transaction the agent would have pulled the best comparables because they get paid on a percentage of the sales price. Certainly there are rogue agents but there are many more ethical agents. You should spend a day in the backseat with a nice white couple who asks repeatedly “who lives here” all in code of course. I had a prepared statement to end this at first ask and still had to fire some as I certainly wasn’t risking my reputation or license for asshats. This is still a form of redlining which should be fined into obliteration.

But anyone who’s done any real estate transactions before know that appraisal valuations are wildly different from appraiser to appraiser and all based on the comps that those appraisers choose to pull
I’ve heard of people having 3 different banks do 3 different appraisals for home equity and they all be on a spread of well over a hundred grand
I’d love to say it’s not an exact science but there’s no scientific aspect to it at all it’s literally just luck of the draw when it comes to appraisers
I will say your better off to get a local appraiser then one of those national branches who send people out hours and don’t know the areas their working

9ºThis is where all those detractors can see the need for the introduction of the Critical Race Theory ( CRT) in schools to teach the young generation about the equality of all races and the differences between people across all races being the content of their minds.
Racism is not an ideology but a very insidious gene mutation that affects the white race putting them in to a dispotion to prejudice against people of other races, hatred, envy, narcissism and a vain supreority complex. It is deeply ingrained, innate, inherent, genetical and hereditary so much that it is passed on from one generation to another through the blood.
CRT is the only thing that can bring hope even though it might take another 400 years to alter the mentality of the white folk and bring the much needed control over his EGO.
10ºWhen looking for a house in San Diego, because my husband is Asian, the real estate agent kept bringing us to a predominantly Asian neighborhood. I told her at least a dozen times I needed to go further east away from the particular populated area to help with my asthma.. Eventually I found a house that I was interested in. Because it was a listed home I had to have the agent let us in. I might add that not only is our current neighborhood predominantly white… But I have never seen a black family here in the past six years.
