With all the ramp up on Ev’s what’s going to happen with the power grid problem with some states. Also once the power companies get smart on the Ev boom how will this increase your home electric bill? With very few Ev tec’s out in the work force and their lack of knowledge of Ev engines will your Ev vehicle sit on your driveway and take up space? And the last Huge problem is…. there is not enough charging stations out there. Driving around town is one thing but try and take your eighty thousand plus Ev vehicle on a long road trip or vacation is another. It’s like buying a gas engine vehicle and not having a gas station for 800 miles. You’ll never make it thus your vehicle will run out of power and you’ll have to walk the rest of the way. Ev’s are nothing move then a glorified fad at the moment. Will they eventually in 10 years take over gas engines? Probably not. Gas station companies have not even begun to even think about putting in Ev charging stations in yet.
2ºRobert Mayo all of always know some made up person/people who drives or builds them then you make-up some fake facts and put them on the internet where others from your group take what you say as people they know. See there are such things as smart phone and on those smart phones are things called applications. Well I know this will blow you prehistoric thinking mind but in those app you have a starting point and ending point and get this the application finds your chargers and even can tell you how long you will be charging. I know right now your mind is blown but I'll take it one step further then the application sends this data on to another application you never heard of call maps and get this it guides you to every one of those chargers. WOW you say yeah welcome to 2022. I just went on vacation and no headache at all. Oh and when I got to my destination I was able to plug in every day and get a full charge just like home. Yes I bought these cars to save money and it is working in June when you were paying 5 bucks a gallon I saved 900+ in just one month. Then add no oil changes and other maintenance you do on the very old technology and I'm saving even more. Oh and you say gas stations have not installed chargers well another lie. Look up Sheetz, She'll, and Pilot truck stops and you will see those 3 examples. Plus restaurants like cracker barrel have them. Also, stores like Walmart and Meijer. All these places are along the interstates. So more of lies hit with the truth.
3ºChris Tufts you're right I haven't. Ford doesnt make a 3/4 ton "duly".
And I've also never seen anyone buying the highest trim level F450 dually with nearly every single possible add on (which is the only way to get a Ford pickup over 100K from the factory) to use as a farm truck. I mean I'm sure there's a few out there but thats far from the norm.
The Rivian does have far more horsepower and almost exactly the same amount of torque as Fords newest 6.7 Powerstroke though so if you wanted to use it as a farm truck it's more than capable. Once battery technology catches up, and it will, diesel pickups will no longer be a thing.
4ºSara Lucy Hey Sara, I interviewed so many people about their experiences with their Ev’s. The one factor that keeps coming up is that the are extremely inconvenient. Driving not far from home is fine….But driving any longer is extremely problematic. Mapping out a charging stations for a distance run that is not on your direct route is a headache. So that means taking the vehicle on vacation is practically non existent right now and will not change for years. People told me it’s like buying a gas vehicle with hardly any gas stations around. So I asked those people what made you buy a vehicle now? It’s always the same answers….. We thought it would save us money and it looks cool.
5ºSara Lucy I was in the market for a new car and this was on my mine the whole time. Finally I was able to make a determination that gas powered engine is the way to go for the next at least 10 years. Once and if after that time Ev’s and Charging stations are more available I may look at it again. I just think it’s too early in the game to switch over completely at this time simply because there are too many downsides to charging the vehicle up at this point. Going on vacation with the vehicle it’s important to get there and back within a reasonable amount of time without having to map out charging stations and the extra time it takes to charge up the vehicle.
