Federal judge blocks HHS guidance that emergency medical care must include abortion services

Texas’ lawsuit was a pre-emptive strike against one of the few tools the Biden administration has sought out in its response to Dobbs.

Steve Tman Well... If only communist see women as equal to men, than what does that make you?
If only communists think that you shouldn't be required to sell your kidney, so that you can afford your medication, what does that make you?
If only communists think, that you should be paid a living wage and not having to resort to working in three jobs, to be able to afford food, what does that make you?

"Communist" or "Socialist" seems to be the "Boogieman" of the Conservative Movement, yet you seem to have NO IDEA, what it actually means.
Ask yourself: "Are we the baddies?"
Think about that. Long and hard.

Carrie Xirakis Yes but when you pass a law that says you can only do an abortion to save a mother's life I'm sorry to tell you but in medicine we don't know how to do things perfectly and there are going to be women who die because of this because of the timing. Set, for example, she has to wait four hours in the emergency room while we get her a bed because we're understaffed and we don't have enough nurses to take care of her. She will die in the waiting room. That's just one example of probably 20 I could give you. You are clearly not a nurse and you don't know how the medical system works.

These issues have been known in the medical community for years. Many of the laws that are passing are consistent with what policies at religious hospitals have been for a long time. What has often been done is women are transferred to other hospitals to recieve the care they need. Which is patient dumping, but that's a different discussion. If abortion is not legal you can't ship the patient to another hospital. And in general you can't ship an unstable patient out of state for the care they need. I am not sure why lawmakers are confused and surprised about something medicine has known for a long time. All they have to do is ask people who provide care to pregnant women. Or look at what research about this topic says.

As an aside, I am not picking on Catholic hospitals. They provide excellent care for lots of other situations. And they provide care in some communities that would not otherwise have a hospital. But there are problems with respect to this issue. So it should come as no surprise to anyone who is paying attention that those problems are now occurring in states that have passed severely restrictive legislation.

Honestly, l am a little confused. Research prior to decision making is the level of responsibility that would be required of any of us if we were charged with making a decision that impacted our organization or the people who work for it. I struggle to understand why our legislators don't believe this standard applies to them when they are making decisions that impact the population of their state or the whole country.
