The policy defines corporal punishment as "the use of physical force as a method of correcting student behavior."

So a conservatives logic is basically a fetus is a baby which is a human and needs respect and protection. But children aren't enough of a human age wise to not be assaulted for misbehaving. Like assaulting an adult for not listening to a supervisor is a crime but if your under 18 it's okay to physically discipline a child for not listening because children are not innocent now and we don't respect them. But we must protect fetuses from harm even if they are not developed because morals and God but children are lesser than adults and need physical harm to behave....

Esther Colunga of course. I support legal corporeal punishment...so youbthink you should be able to "red flag" me.

THIS is why I do NOT support "red flag" laws. Because people like you want to use the GOVERNMENT against people they disagree with.

You don't believe in corporeal punishment. I support your right to do that. I raised several very productive children. They work, they earn money, support their families, etc.

One of my children is paralyzed. Was injured in a hit an run accident, where the criminal was running from a robbery, hit my daughter, then CARJACKED a car that stopped to help.

Sentenced to 18 years in prison. Was just released on probation after 18 months. Perhaps if HIS parents had been stricter, MY daughter would still be able to WALK.

Corporal punishment was used on me growing up because I was immature and bad. Now I’m a law abiding citizen who has never run afoul of the law and so are my children. Todays American children are out of control and think they’re entitled, and most of it can be blamed on their parents and leaders. Many of todays single American parents are overworked and don’t even know how to properly discipline their children or teach them correctly because they’re too consumed with life’s daily struggles. If only the two parent man woman household was pushed instead of what it’s been replaced with instead. That’s a big part of why so many children problems exist to begin with.

Carlos Sheppard You know hitting children doesn’t actually make them listen. What it does is makes your child more aggressive and more likely to have self esteem issues and mental health problems. The healthy way to discipline is to put your child in timeout and explain to them the wrong doing of their actions if they’re young. If they’re older you should temporarily remove privileges the older child might of had. It’s not entitlement to not want to be hit by someone. There’s a difference between discipline and abuse and I won’t use physical punishment on my children that I have one day.

Timothy Healy from the article: “Where it is used, corporal punishment has not proved to be an effective strategy, according to a 2016 study published in the Journal of Family Psychology.
‘The meta-analyses presented here found no evidence that spanking is associated with improved child behavior and rather found spanking to be associated with increased risk of 13 detrimental outcomes,’ the authors wrote. ‘Parents who use spanking, practitioners who recommend it, and policymakers who allow it might reconsider doing so given that there is no evidence that spanking does any good for children and all evidence points to the risk of it doing harm.’”

Now when I was in school in the 50s yes kids got a paddling as the last measure for students whose behavior created danger in the classrooms. We respected our teachers, students didn't cuss, or attack teachers and it was so quiet in our classrooms you could hear a pin drop. One of the reasons for me not being a teacher now is the level of disrespect and violence against teachers. Kids are allowed to attack teachers but a teacher can be fired for defending themselves. Parents get mad at teachers and threatened them with violence. Who wants to be a teacher nowadays. We went to college, got a degree and wanted to teach to fulfill our love of imparting knowledge on the next adult generation. What we got was low pay, disrespectful students & parents, little to no admin support, no regard for our health and well being (especially during the pandemic) and school board members with no education degree and experience dictating how and what to teach to our students. Its obvious corporal punishment wont work nowadays so its time to move to blended education with a couple of in- class learning days with students who don't create a danger and who want to learn. Then provide mental health specialists to work with parents whose kids are disruptive and violent. Parents can then deal with their own kids' behavior issues in remote learning environments and take responsibility for disciplining their own kids. Teachers can do what we were educated and trained to do and that is teach.

Hey kids, Missouri laws are there for you too, know yours and that your school district has voted to violate them regardless of if they ask for consent.
