Beth Hall Turner police records and warrants and anything pending is public knowledge. He had assault, domestic and improper handling of a firearm for this warrant. In public records he had an improper use of a firearm in 2021. He was being served in the middle of the night because regular apprehension did not work and he did not turn himself in. Upon being served, besides the yelling and banging around, other people in the house coming out and ultimately a dog barking directly at his door he chose to stay where he was. With any violent crime and firearm charge any reasonable person would assume, especially after needing this kind of work to be apprehended, that the person was a threat. So after going in, knowing all of this, knowing he's still not cooperating, having an object in your hand makes you susceptible to exactly what happened. I would not be in a place to have police raid my home. I therefore would never be in a place to be around police in the first place. I work in the ER, see the side of gun violence no one wants to talk about until it's a white on black shooting. My husband is an officer who had a similar situation and shot a white man during arrest, my children are biracial. I am invested in all angles of situations like this. The media makes these situations their money source and uninformed responses make their money.

Beth Hall Turner we do not see these situations day on and day out. The media shows you the ones that get ratings. Like I said, my husband shooting a white man during an apprehension didn't make the news. Ever. Do you know how many young men shoot each other everyday? Even just in Columbus? It doesn't have to be a death. My son played AAU and went to an inner city friend's home and he had to lay on the ground inside the house because there was shooting. That was just during his VISIT. Quit making criminals sound innocent and like they are kids. At 20 you are making your decisions and you don't get raided, like I said, if you're an upstanding citizen. Be careful how you present your opinions like this one. You're enabling instead of holding people who bring this on themselves accountable. My family doesn't break the law. We don't want to lose someone because someone else does.

I wrote, If he was white, would never of known! Meaning, we would never of known his skin color cause the media loves to add and label skin color and why is that? Why can't it be an unarmed man who was fatally shot and killed by a police officer! But no....a man's color gets thrown in and why!?!? If the officer was black and the man was white, who cares! A unarmed man was kill! Period! All of you judge and gave your bias opinion! You all thought I was the avg. white guy who doesn't have a clue and lives behind white privileged and raised in the good old suburbs! Some of you are no different then the ones you speak of and hate or dislike! Yes Keith Keller....... white people have it easy in this country. Thanks for reminding me. I will sleep better knowing this. Someone once said, One day live in a nation where they will not be judge by the color of their skin but by the content of character! I guess we forgot this statement and let the media do the talking!

Elizabeth Smith I think your using your unconscious bias here. I saw the charges but do not know any of the details of them!! Glad you do!!
I too have worked in an ER that sees it’s fair share of violence!! I too have black children and am invested, my son sleeps with his AirPods in!! He doesn’t hear the fire alarm… so I won’t assume he heard all the chaos!!! I sleep through the worst storms… so assuming is unacceptable!!
Now a young man’s life is over, because in less than a second this officer choose to assume there was a gun..
The man was complying to get out of the bed as he was told, and did not have the chance to!!
The officer in the direct line of site did not shoot…but the one who was not did?
Open the door and send the dog in… that’s what I’m saying!!! Killing young men is not the solution!!! The media is doing their job and in fact I just took a class yesterday on the criminalization of Black women. Which is very under report…
I’m not here to fight with anyone about this I’m just stating my opinion that something else should have been done in this particular situation!!! Everyone teaches compliance and I saw him complying!! But I also do have the empathy for the officers who are also afraid to not go home to their families!!

Tiffany Hoke The problem I see here is that you’re very comfortable making assumptions about a case you don’t actually know anything about. The article you posted said cops were there with a “search warrant”. That is not the same thing as an arrest warrant. If this is true the warrant they had would give them permission to look for something, but that is different than assuming he was doing to be arrested.

Second, as I already explained to you, the “gun charge” is not what you stated it as. I’m always disgusted with people on social media who merely pretend that some fact they are confronted with simply doesn’t exist & go right on talking about things as if this was never stated. A charge of “inappropriate handling of a firearm” in Ohio can even be a misdemeanor. First you falsely called it an assault with a gun. Now you call it a “gun charge”. Despite the loaded language the FACT is, people are arrested in apartment houses every day in this country instead of the middle of the night, even for violent felonies. Cops also sit around in stakeouts waiting to arrest people. So yes that is an appropriate expectation.

Once we clear away all the things we do not know yet, we are left with two & only two actual facts germane to this shooting. 1) Cops showed up in the middle of the night with a large contingent of officers & a dog: & 2) The victim of the shooting was unarmed and in bed when he was shot.

Everything else is speculation & most of sounds designed to implicate the dead man absent any known evidence in order to absolve police of even having to face an inquiry into another death at their hands of an unarmed black guy.

The questions I am asking are entirely appropriate & legitimate, & unlike you I have assumed nothing about this guy’s guilt or innocence, but merely stated that these questions deserve to be asked.

Len Jaskiewicz Nope, that isn’t what I said. What I said was: (1) I disagree with the suggestion that the police should find a convenient time to arrest violent offenders who assault the mother of their children and their own mother and some other unnamed woman over the span of 2 years and also mishandle firearms and (2) that putting all the blame onto the officer and acting like the people in this apartment didn’t contribute to the situation is not fair. If the police are banging on the door and yelling for 8 minutes outside an apartment, why wouldn’t they be concerned that the person was using that time to hide, get their gun, etc? I am simply saying there were multiple ways this could have been avoided leading up to the situation: the guy could have no committed crimes in the first place (alleged on the last one but two other times he did commit violent crimes), he could have not owned a gun if he knew he had violent tendencies, he could have stepped up and faced his charges after assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, his roommates could have told police he was there and where he was instead of evading to the point more reinforcement was needed.

I am for due process and not in favor of shootings, but I am also not in favor of lumping this in with situations where truly innocent people have been harmed without any contributory behavior that escalated the situation.

Beth Hall Turner I replied specifically to every post you made but you know that. I'm surprised to see which part of Columbus you live and still have this weird way of thinking about this case. You have the white mom of biracial kids problem which in itself is racist. Every black young person is not your child. You don't have concern for a 20 year old being killed during a drug deal in the Hilltop I bet. You can dislike what I say and use as many exclamation points as you feel necessary but you admitted yourself that when you see a report of the death of a child? black person? You thought of Amber alerts and your own children. 20 is not a child, a felon is a felon, not turning yourself over when everyone else did is not your son in a bedroom with music playing or you not being able to hear a storm in your sleep. When things like this happen you don't use your voice to jump on and make an uniformed comment that enables the offender. You inform yourself, you stop with the race nonsense and eventually, if you do that, this race issue where there is none will stop lining the media's pockets. If you are about your children quit. This GROWN MAN broke the law, didnt own up to the consequences multiple times, had to be served in the middle of the night be apprehended, put himself in the position he was in and the possible outcome occured. See how different it is when you don't mention his race or consider him a child? Have a good one.

Tim Duke Sr. And I knew you wanted to say this so badly. Just through your question I knew this is what you wanted to say. Even if the Africans sold them THEY HAD NO SAY IN THAT. So it was NOT in THEIR WILL to be sold and brought to America. Would you like it if I sold you? No! Do you think people just want to be sold? Like really? They didn't sell themselves! SO AGAIN... they did not come to America on their OWN WILL! Your point makes absolutely no sense!!! And actually the Europeans who went to Africa brought guns!!! They traded with the Chinese and then went to Africa to trade the guns with the Africans and also used the guns to also colonize parts of Africa. Africans were not selling slaves until they came. They knew Africans were strong and able-bodied so they went there with the guns. They HEARD they were selling slaves??? Who sent out the advertisements then??? Like really? No they killed off most of the Indians with their diseases and partially through violence then went to seek other victims. And so again they were brought to America AGAINST THEIR WILL! It wasn't their personal WILL to be slaves, no matter who traded them! So if your mother were to sell you into slavery you're telling me that it's in every right within your WILL to be a slave then?

Not good at all. What is wrong with these people? Where were they when an officer shot at an unarmed man? And there was protesting and violence (domestic terrorized) hit the city!! Don’t they spread this news,, so far just about any issues, small or big it is on news. Idk man,, but This one an officer breaks into a house , the officer is on a private property but he shoots a man (no color of skin,,, ) this is a man in his own bed and boom! Now he’s gone. Sick…. I’m an American folks I’m an American . Why don’t they reevaluate this behavior

10ºSome, and I am not going to say all, but some get into this field to kill and their target is always an African American or a person of color. They have been charged with killing people of color. My father always said, and this was over 100 years ago, that the KKK had removed the sheets and hoods for black robes and blue uniforms. That for years was discounted by the White race. But now, that idiot tRump yall elected to be in the white house, has emboldened them. They feel they have a free hand. They all feel they will never go to jail. Similar to the idiots who stormed the white house in 2021. Look at them now crying as they are sentenced to go to jail. I could go on about this but if you have any level of intelligence, you see what the plan is.
