1ºDemocrats across the country are facing an increasingly bleak outlook as election forecasters continue to shift more races in Republicans favor with less than two weeks to go before Election Day. The shifts have taken place in a number of races once thought out of reach for Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was caught on a hot mic telling President Biden Thursday that Democrats are “in danger”. Voters concerns over inflation, the economy, violent crime and the border crisis continue to rise, Democrats are beginning to see hopes of maintaining majorities in both houses of Congress and some governorships, slip through their fingers.
2ºMichael Maximus we are basically the only developed country on earth who charges for a public higher education, and we are def the only ones giving out EXTREMELY predatory loans to young people who just want better for their life. There’s absolutely no reason someone should be paying on student loans for a decade only to have their balance increase from the original loan amount. We deserve better, and we should demand better. If we spent less on the big war machine, and private prisons, and tax breaks for the rich, and bailouts for corporations, we could afford to allow anyone who wants it to get a higher education without being in debt forever.
3ºAnt Daughtry I got mine and paid back over 80K after interest when all was said and done. So I got mine, lol? Also, your spewing liberal talking talking points. The tope 1% pays 40% of all taxes in the US and the tope 10% pays 71% of all taxes in the US. The poor pay nothing. As far as tax cuts, which ones? The fake ones liberals claim Trump gave out? LOL, I took home an extra $230/month with those tax cuts and I am considered lower middle class. DISCLIAMER: I DO NOT SUPPORT TRUMP. but conservative policies are far better than this crapshow we have seen the past 18 months and there is NO denying it by honest people. Under Biden, I have lost ALL of that and pay an extra 3500/year just for gas, not to mention food and other living expenses. SL debt relief will do NOTHING and again. You can throw out there whatever you want, I have facts and knowledge on my side.
4ºEric Lindberg people don’t have a choice of going to college and not having a loan, at least most people.
And the rates are predatory. So you’re faced with two options, going to college or not. I know growing up, everyone put college degrees on the highest level. So, a lot of people went to college.
A 10k loan with the rates is easily a 30+k loan. It’s sick. Education shouldn’t be unaffordable. You shouldn’t go broke to get educated.
I don’t mind helping people out. A lot of people, now especially, are using the money they would pay their loans, for food or other basic necessities because of inflation. If this helps someone feed their family, I’m all for it. I don’t get why people see helping others as such a horrible thing.

The estimated cost is the amount that payments are reduced for borrowers over the next decade. The only student loan debt being forgiven is US government owned debt.
For instance, if a person has 25k in student loans, and they are paying 300 a month. With forgiveness the amount owned becomes 15k and their payments drop to 200 a month.
The estimated cost is the 100 a month less being paid over the next 10 years.
There is no transfer of cash to any bank because banks do not own the debt, the US government does.
6ºMichelle DiCiano you create jobs... you need a product or service, etsy and Angie's list basically will show you other people can do those things. And I'm sure you can do some too, but not all.. like every other human. Corporations are just middle men who take a percentage of your work. Nothing wrong with that to a small point.. you wouldn't find that product or service without Angie's list or etsy so they should get something. But you created the job ,and another you created the solution. You have more value than just your credit score, corporations make jobs to profit on that. You can do that same job yourself most of the time and... sure it'll take a few years to get going but you can make your own small business out of it. You don't need to work for a company to do your skill... most times. I mean if you're an accountant it's harder to sell your service... but plenty of people are they're own firm with a couple others... small business. Or home business, local handyman or artist

Also, in the past 40yrs, Democratic Administrations have reduced our deficit while Republican Administrations have added to it. History has proving Reaganomics is a farce and a boondoggle to enrich the wealthy. The wealthy disparity is reaching 1920's levels, and yet you continue to vote for those who don't have the countries best interest. SMH.. 10ºChris Fry ah, he we go, a response on the actual topic. Which again proves my initial post, you are a scrooge... you got yours, to hell with helping others. I paid my loans and the loans for my son and daughter too. I don't mind this action because I know how difficult it is for a young person saddled with enormous debt to be able to progress.
So I take it you are fine with tax cuts for the 1%, that don't benefit anyone other than them and does nothing to help improve the economy. Instead of doing something for the 99% who actually spend a larger portion of their income in the economy, which actually help the economy... typical Grand Oligarchy Party Philosophy.
Student debt relief will go a long way with improving the lives of those who benefit along with the economy.
