Most of these people complaining about not getting a job cause of affirmative action are just in denial that they just don’t bring practical, professional, or otherwise valuable talents to the table. It’s an easy out for guys who in reality, simply aren’t good enough.
The playing field is NOT nor has it ever been level, that’s where affirmative action comes in. If you think affirmative action is somehow holding you back, you should take a long look in the mirror.
2ºMarie Anderson Fairness in education is a lot more complicated than that simplistic faux "example" indicates. I've been teaching in higher ed for forty years, and the changes I've seen there that have truly been beneficial to everyone whether they knew it or not were due to affirmative action. The reasons for that are complicated too, and I'm not spending the rest of the afternoon writing an essay here to explain them to you. But if this culture had never used affirmative action to begin to correct--and they are still very far from being completely corrected--some of the extreme injustices suffered by women and people of color prior to its introduction, I truly shudder to imagine where we'd be right now.
3ºDavid Cosme Well my dad died in 2010 so this is all history now. Yes my dad was a principled individual and stayed with the government job until he retired. He was still robbed of 7 years of seniority however. But yes he needed up running a 30 million dollar department and doing very well when the roadblocks were finally lifted. It’s amazing what can happen people are hired for their credentials and not race, color etc. The department my dad worked in only had 2 minority men in it the rest were white. It was a very small percentage hired in but it should have happened years ago. My dad did a FIA and found out that he was more qualified that most of the people hired in before him and before AA kicked in. So look at it any way you want but I think the most qualified getting hired is better than biased hiring.,

You want to talk about “mowing down children?” I guess you forgot the thousands of children that have died at the hands of black and mexican gangs. 6ºBrian Tarvin No actually what was happening before affirmative action was racist. Highly qualified people of color not getting jobs due to their race etc. after AA the hiring practices improved and everyone got a fair look. I know it’s hard for people who are not minorities to understand but my dad who was highly educated was overlooked for the same job for 7 years. After AA was started they could no longer overlook him and the job he was qualified for all those 7 years he finally got. We as a family lost 7 years or seniority and pay increases due to the fact that he was not hired in sooner. My dad was more than qualified for the job but while he was rejected white men were being hired for the same position. My dad was 1 of only 2 people in f color hired in after AA. So talk to me about racism when you have actually been effected by it like so many of us people of color have.
