My heart goes out to this lady for her terrible loss, and while I hope she gets answers to her questions, I also hope that she and the rest of the country understand that her loss was due to the fire, not to the actions or inaction of those men and women tasked with bringing that fire under control. While the two firefighters in question may not have conducted themselves in the manner expected by the fire department, there is never any guarantee that fire fighters will locate and/or save persons located within a burning structure and they should never be "expected" to be successful, much less legally liable for failure to do so. They are risking their own lives every time they enter a burning structure. If they lied on official departmental reports then they should be punished in accordance with department policy, but that is where it should end.

BrookeLand Bee can you point to where I said that, please?

Responsibility for any child under 18 ultimately lies with the parent(s), whoever has custodial rights. The laws are put into place because statistically children of certain ages aren’t responsible enough to make decisions especially in an emergency. The firefighters should punished for their role, and yet, it is their mother who was obligated to protect them, legally and morally. I was left alone by 12, but at the time is was very common, not illegal, and kids definitely had more common sense and maturity than they do now. I have a soon-to-be 12 yo and there’s no way on God’s green earth I’d leave him alone, and he is actually quite mature and intelligent for his age. But he’s still a child who shouldn’t be making decisions as the head of the house while his parents are gone.

Nikki Sanders none of those things were covered in this article. Also, if a parent in general is raising there kids based off the CPS guidelines, then they shouldn't be parents. A 12 year old and 9 year old shouldn't be left in any situation where they may have to fend for their own lives. They shouldn't be expected to hold that level of mental capacity. Them being at their fathers house only makes the story that much more sad for the mom. Maybe it's not neglectful in the states eyes, but I'm sure many would agree that anyone 14 and under should not be forced to defend themselves. Especially in Flint Michigan.

Robert Reinhardt because racial bias NEVER occurs in the line of duty,, racism DOESN'T and NEVER has existed its ALWAYS another reason, even when you don't even know anything about the situation. As long as it's any other reason They're doing an investigator to rule out bias. But it's the ones like you who come to the conclusion before the investigator ever starts that kills me. You weren't there. You don't know them, personally. You don't know their reasons for lying and falsifying their reports. But like always, before having all the evidence, you make sure you conclude it's NEVER about race.

Xtine Brie The firefighters were found to be literally lying about checking the room so yes they are absolutely responsible and should be held accountable. Those children were left in the smoke for an additional 6-7 minutes leading to their death from smoke inhalation. Legal age, if it's even a law, for most states for kids to be left alone is 10-12. Even if mom was home she could have been downstairs with no way to get to the kids. Pretty shifty of you to try to out blame on the mother when the firefighters straight up did not do their job here.

People ask “where was she?” She was at work, getting money to provide for her family. She was keeping a roof over them babies heads, food on the table, etc. people want to blame her when in fact, the system and that community is what failed the entire family. The facts state that the fire fighters lied about sweeping the area. When you look at the bigger picture, ask yourself WHY she had to go to work and leave those babies alone. I’m sure if she could, she wouldn’t leave them babies alone. N then check this, if she doesn’t work and gets govt assistance- she’s a bum, etc. meanwhile the ones who collects paycheck based off the taxes she pays, failed her and let the children die and y’all wanna raise them up. Smh sending to her family.

Xtine Brie, now after saying all of that. Why didn't the firefighters search the house? Why did the lie about searching the house? Could the kids have survived if they search the house. 17 minutes Lamar and Zy'Aire was in that house. You need to read and you will answer your own questions. The Mayor played politics with this. Bottom line is people take an oath to protect the public. Take you and your excuses somewhere. I can leave my children at home. Now it's a problem to leave your kids at home alone when they are of age. That is crazy.

First due Firefighters especially riding Rescue or Truck Don't have water or hoselines they go in for a quick primary where conditions can deteriorate in seconds with extreme heat and the fire growing flashover can occur, the 2nd crew went in 7 minutes later where they had most likely had water or water was on the fire making the heat bearable and smoke lifting. Even with an air pack and full turn out gear on if conditions get unbearable through that it's time to bail out and if conditions are unbearable with full gear on there is Zero chance of any survivors with a civilian with No protective gear on

Mark Rozier what part of not checking did you not understand? There is no guarantee an adult could have saved them. Stop sounding so ignorant.

Home fires account for 92% of civilian fire deaths. On average, seven people die in a fire a day. House fires cause an average of 2,620 civilian deaths each year. Occupants can quickly be overcome by smoke and unable to reach nearby exits. In only 3 1/2 minutes, the heat from a house fire can reach over 1100 degrees Fahrenheit. In rooms that are not even on fire the temperature can reach over 300 degrees; this is hot enough to melt plastic and kill the people in those rooms. The smoke from a house fire can be so thick that your house would be completely dark in 4 minutes. Fire produces gases and fumes that can make you sleepy, weak, and confused. Guaranteed that a trained firefighter with fire gear, has a better chance at saving someone from a fire, than the average civilian. Guaranteed that the dereliction of duty killed those boys. Guaranteed you are a sanctimonious moron

10ºDenise Trenaman I did NOT blame her. READ my post. Let the investigation play out and hopefully it won’t be tainted. If wrong doing is apparent then those who are responsible should be held accountable. My biggest question is smoke alarms. When I over cook a pizza in the oven mine go off and would alert even the youngest of children to act. I test and replace the batteries in ours every 6 months. I’m tired of people blaming everyone else for tragedies that could have been prevented by the ones affected by them. I totally understand this woman must be grieving and I can’t even imagine what she is going through. My ️ does go out to her.
