2ºLeon Fetter Perhaps in your dotage, reading comprehension slips a bit. I did not say seeking asylum was or should be illegal. I very clearly stayed that our current immigration laws are untenable. We do not have a majority of illegals in our country, or those attempting to enter illegally, who are actual asylum candidates. Groups who want to open our borders from the south have made it known that anyone caught can claim asylum and be turned loose.
Remember when crazy ol' Bernie had a strong opposition to illegal immigration because it hurt US workers and was a drain on our system? I will agree with his previous viewpoint. Meanwhile, our immigration system needs a serious overhaul to keep more immigrants out unless they have skills to better our society or they are true refugees.
3ºPaul Howell Good, so we know that is a law that should be changed. Or again, we open centers at entry points where they can walk in, apply, and walk right back out to Mexico. No need to allow them free rein of our country on the hope that they show up for their hearings.
Obviously, we have a lot of work to do to make it harder on those breaking our immigration laws and on those who intend on misleading us about their asylum claims.
They make a long trek through Mexico; they can cool their heels there instead of here.
