Luxury hotels with a front row to history

While many hotels have rich and varied stories, there are a few that stand out for the momentous scenes which once unfolded there

I don't know if it was front row, but if you watched Anthony Bourdain's show No Reservations, they aired a special episode taking place in Beirut that started out as a regular one, until Israel started shelling Lebanon. The rest of the episode is mostly what would usually be considered behind the scenes at their hotel. Conversations with tourists (mostly American), Anthony in the hotel kitchen (being a chef, he couldn't help stepping into the kitchen, both to cook what he liked and to work with the hotel's chef on local foods for the guests (and the staff that were still in the building), and eventually their rescue (they were flown by helicopter to a waiting US Navy ship), including everyone in the mess hall. It was a very interesting glimpse of what happens when real life events happen when filming a tourist/cooking show
