In the very early hours of Christmas Eve, Anndel Taylor would send her last video message to a group chat with her sisters.

John Kelly I live in Maine, it has been drilled into us for years. I grew up in Florida and there wasn’t much about it in the news that I can remember. Most people get their news online, the CDC and news need to get more creative in getting this kind of information out as the shock will wear off and people will forget about it.
I feel middle school and high school kids need home economic type courses - budgeting, cooking, cleaning, CPR, wellness and survival all included. That may be the best way to get the word out.

Jasmine Christine I honestly meant it not as a blame. Who is in the right mind can blame or judge someone that lost her life
I meant it as something that could be avoided if someone else got trapped in the car in the future.
I went back and read a lot about some stories and why they didn’t send help. The emergency responders themselves were trapped I lived through many storms in Buffalo but my friend there told me that they never saw something like that before ( since the 70s , I wasn’t there) so my heart and prayers go for every family that lost someone. Also I meant to say that we help strangers during the storms. I hosted someone overnight in October snowstorm 2006 bc she was stuck outside her house ( she lived somewhere in the neighborhood)
I wish she was able to find any house nearby and asked for help ️

My heart breaks for this girls family, I have a 22 year old daughter and couldn’t imagine the fear and hopelessness that they felt being so far away and not being able to help their baby. It’s absolutely gut wrenching. I’ve been watching the news for days and all I feel is sadness and heartbreak for those who perished needlessly. I am very angered by all the comments that emergency personnel and city officials somehow failed her and others. I don’t think people realize how BAD the conditions were!!Emergency responders could not even get to people! They had the same road conditions!! Buffalo got 51 inches of snow!! With wind blowing and negative degree temperatures! There was a travel ban and shelters set up all over the city. Her employer should have offered her to stay there. This was a once in a generation storm It was forecasted and people were warned how bad it was gonna be. Always carry a blanket in your car, always make sure your exhaust is clear on your car and in your home. Have a back up plan for heat, even if it means hanging a blanket in one doorway of your house, and having a little Mr. buddy heater for camping on hand. Let this storm be a learning lesson for us all that this can happen and we all need to be better prepared and have back up plans! Thoughts, prayers and hugs going out to all who lost someone in this terrible storm.

Cindy Walker a few of us read the article more than once. I think maybe it was written poorly. It stated that her Buffalo family were instructed by her NC family to go to her phone location, which they did read the car and never saw her. If what you are saying is the case, which sounds about right, they should have written "were unable to reach the car and couldn't see inside the car as it was completely covered" however if the car was completely covered, how did they even know that was her car and why they didn't get immediate help if they were able to get to the car? So many questions. We can all assume what happened but the details in this article makes it incredibly confusing.

Amany Saleeb the death toll has surpassed the storm in the 70s, and we have more resources now. Majority of the deaths were people that were found outdoors, not in cars. So no, the simple act of waking does not spare your life in those elements. I have lived in up state for 34 years and I am not naive enough to think that I have better knowledge than the people who endured this storm. This is a tragedy and the families deserve to grieve without hearing about the wouldve, could’ve and shoulves of people that didn’t have to go through it.

Michael Mancuso nobody is saying it’s her fault. I’m saying being from out of state.. I would have zero clue what to do in a snowstorm. In her text messages shared by her sister.. she said her plan was to wait in the car until it ran out of gas. Her last text stated that the snow would be up to her waist if she tried to get out. We don’t know exact cause of death yet.. but I will not be surprised if it’s carbon monoxide poisoning. I’m saying I would have done the exact same she did because I would not have known any better.

Rachel Coons she wasn’t “from there” originally. She was from North Carolina and moved there. Maybe it wasn’t snowing that bad when she left work. Maybe she thought she could just force through it to get home. It doesn’t matter. A young girl is dead and it’s terrible to bash her memory after she’s gone saying all the things she should or shouldn’t have done. What purpose does it serve? For one thing she shouldn’t have had to wait 3 days for help. But they say the city couldn’t get there. However after she was dead people made it to her car. It’s a sad tragedy.

Judy Stringham No exact cause of death yet.. she could very well have froze to death a but in her last texts to her sister her plan was to let the car run until It ran out of gas. One of the last texts stated that she was estimating the snow would be to her waist if she tried to get out.. so I will not be surprised if the cause of death does turn out to be carbon monoxide. But my point is.. being from out of state I have no idea what to do in snow. If I moved to a snow state this is info I’d most definitely like to know.

10ºMisty Dawn Welcher I lived in Buffalo for 20 years. One time a stranger was stuck outside her house in a storm. She walked to our house. I know she lives in the area. We had no power so she slept at our house.we had no power for 10 days in that October snow storm 2006. We help each other
If she left her car n went to any house, people would’ve be more than happy to host her. You didn’t live in Buffalo but I did. I am not blaming her
I am just saying an important point
Leave your car and walk
The people that lost their lives mostly because they waited in the car. Walk to the nearest gas station, motel, house, restaurant
Anything but don’t be trapped in your car please
