Southwest Airlines informed some passengers affected by its Christmas travel meltdown that they would receive frequent flyer bonus points as a "gesture of goodwill."

Aaron Tillery well I've never had to deal with a flight being canceled even in my career traveling a lot so I don't know all the ins and outs. But I do know business and the terminology is what it's all about consider and reasonable. And I'm not sure what Southwest considers reasonable when it was all last minute out of pocket people were putting out. In the long run it usually doesn't work out too well for the consumer because of the small print. As judges say it's to make a person whole not to make a profit. And usually the consumer loses out because they don't pay full price for anything whether it's lodging or the suitcase they lost and the contents in it.

Hello, my name is Sufyan. I apologize for this comment. I have been suffering from the disease for 4 years. I have severe headaches, a high degree of fever, and great pain in my body. I went to the doctor and did a few tests, but to no avail. Unfortunately, my disease has not been diagnosed yet, and I still am. I suffer from this malignant disease that has ruined my life. I have lost weight and my health is getting worse every day. I still suffer from pain and headaches in my body. For a long time I have been looking for help in my country, but I did not find anyone to help me. In my country, everything is with hospital money. With money, treatment with money, examinations with money, medicine with money, and doctors in Morocco deal with money. They have no mercy or humanity. Every day that passes, it gets worse for me. I desperately need help. I am still in pain from the severity of the disease and headaches every day. Facebook In order to save myself from death and from this malignant disease, I ask for help in diagnosing and treating my disease

Lynn Merker i’m assuming this is probably just an automatic thing on peoples accounts I’m sure if you pushed you probably got other compensation for the other stuff as well(rental cars, other flight, purchases, hotels, food, etc.). If people do it right, they could actually make off pretty well, holding the airline responsible with their contracts of carriage getting the maximum out of that still be able to do the trip by booking with other airlines, getting reimbursed for that getting these free $500 essentially vouchers in account credits, and then many credit and debit cards come with travel protection, including reimbursement. For example, with my flight around that time was canceled. I essentially would’ve gotten the equivalent of about four flights round-trip in value, returned to me.

For all the people justifying this with comments like: “this is normal around Xmas”
-There isn’t anything normal about 15000 canceled flights.
“Other airlines are awful”
- I know, that’s why I usually fly with SW
“SW never had issues”
- Yes, it does. In the last 2 years I have flown with them 10 times and 4 of those trips had more than 4 hours delays. Also in June 2021 their system had a huge crash and hundreds of flights got delayed and some canceled. Mine was one of them.
It’s really annoying that flying is very expensive however the treatment we received across the board is like it was some type of charity service. They need to do better.

Aaliyah Wendy I mainly learned how to fly because my ex-husband wanted a plane and a Pilots license, we had a friend that had a Cessna 150 and we enjoyed the little Club of Pilots out of our airport we were in. We would fly somewhere every Saturday for lunch. I wanted to make sure I could land it in an emergency so I took lessons after he got his. It was something I never thought of doing. Yes I've had a lot of experiences over my lifetime I have been very fortunate. And I'm still here I was shot in the Las Vegas Route 91 mass shooting some of those experiences I rather would not have had.

Lynn Merker true you’re not gonna get your time and frustration back but they did specify the flight cost hotel accommodations vehicle rental expenses so I’m sure if you put in for gas tolls and food you could probably be reimbursed for that to also check with your credit and debit cards, many have protections for travel as well is it Southwest fault for not updating your computer system to something more modern absolutely and hopefully this is the wake up call requirement that they will use kinda like targeted when they had the data breach where they updated all of their security in store in sits and app wise. But I think Southwest will probably update their system to something more modern even if it’s just for improving operations for them and for good PR and don’t be surprised if you hear them pushing new commercials in the coming months about them trying to win bad customers, trust saying how they are providing extra perks right now or how they are renovating some of their aircraft or airline hubs” and they will likely mention a brand new state of the art computer system to make their travel system and airline, more competitive and user-friendly. I would bet my life on it you’ll see a commercial like that in the coming months
