For the sixth year in a row, the Mediterranean style of eating earned the title of best overall diet, according to 2023 ratings announced Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report

“The diet features simple, plant-based cooking, with the majority of each meal focused on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and seeds, with a few nuts and a heavy emphasis on extra-virgin olive oil. Fats other than olive oil, such as butter, are consumed rarely, if at all, and sugar and refined foods are reserved for special occasions.

Red meat is used sparingly, usually only to flavor a dish. Eating healthy, oily fish, which are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, is encouraged, while eggs, dairy and poultry are eaten in much smaller portions than in the traditional Western diet.”


Anna Jost the problem are
Bigger American portions, and not pasta. Here in Italy I eat pasta maybe twice a week, a lot of vegetables, cereals, no mc donald’s or frozen/canned/processed food, here is common to eat only fresh food, in the Mediterranean the culture of food has thousands years of history. The food is excellent and healthy in Europe but also in the south Mediterranean, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco. The problem in US is the portion of food and sugar drinks, too big, to many calories and bad fats. Luckily we try to give our kids mostly healthy stuff. When I was young my snack was a fruit
