You REALLY think that is going to help? These businesses who can hire people will go out of businesses also. Even McDonalds is replacing humans with machines. More and more people are being replaced. Restaurants are already struggling to pay higher food prices and fuel prices. Now you expect them to shell out more money? WHERE is it coming from? Not the customers. They can't afforded to eat out.. So...where? Daycares are raising prices because they are being forced to pay workers more. Putting a hurt on parents who are struggling to pay their daycare bill. Then many have to quit working. HOW does that help them pay the bills? How does that help the businesses they use to work for? You make it sound like no big deal to raise wages. In the end it helps nobody.
2ºMarie Anderson It's far more complicated than that, and much more than just employers exploiting employees, not paying a livable wage, and people no longer putting up with that BS. I know people who have applied for literally hundreds of jobs (my son is one), yet are getting no callbacks, and being stonewalled. Businesses are playing games, outsourcing their HR departments overseas to exploit cheap labor, and automating the application and hiring proccess with bots, virtual assistants, and A.I.. There are no humans to talk to anymore when applying for jobs, and foreigners you can barely understand are reading from scripts to you if you are even lucky enough to reach a human. Why don't you go ask employers WTF is going on with their hiring practices. Until then, cry your river elsewhere.

Also, Internationally the UN Convention does not make that requirement of refugees and case Law supports that interpretation. Refugees can safely claim Asylum in other countries "after passing through other safe countries first."
What Trump did, was make threats about Tariffs on goods, questionably illegal, against Mexico if they didn't stop Immigrants there and attempt to register them. Even though they didn't have the Resouces to do it.
However, like most everything Trump did, it only made things worse.
Trump, the man whose grandfather came illegally from Germany, to avoid military service. Went back and got a wife, whose mother came from Scotland with nothing, and 2/3rds of his wives have questionable immigration.

Inflation reduction costing taxpayers trillions on Democrat pork for ( golf courses, pools, etc) and we are in a recession, higher wages along with HIGHER BILLS and grocery bills, higher everything...More minorities ran as Republicans and liberals voted against them for white Democrats..Average American is saving less money do to the inflation... stimulus checks will be paid by for by the next generation. No one is working open jobs because its easier to get stimulus and welfare and unemployment...Worst president EVER!
5ºits been clear for some time people don't want to work. look at all the signs for help wanted. don't give me the bull chit about low wages/ When I first entered the workforce at 36 with an 8th grade education my job was the equivalent of 7.00 dollars and hour. I went from an Air Force officers wife to someone with no future or money. I was a nursing assistant, worked my way to an LPN then became a 2 year RN. 6ºMeanwhile 180,000+ families have left NY - mostly for Florida where "WOKE has gone to die" according to their Governor and the 500,000 newbies (many from California who've lost as much as NY) who've recently settled there are enjoying it.
NY's Governor encouraged this: in August last year she grandstanded on a podium, telling Republicans (mostly) to "get out of town - you're not our kind of people". She was wearing black that day.
Now, wearing the purest white, she has just said on the same podium ".. we must stop people leaving the state...." but not bothering to admit that she is mostly responsible for them leaving in the first place.
Since none of her remarks addressed the no-bail bond and high violence, it seems she thinks words are mightier than the sword (or sensible crime laws). All talk, no do. Well, that's what New Yorkers voted for, with a brain-damaged Senator as their representative.
How ironic that, after voting that way, New Yorkers who can, are now leaving behind the stupidity and blind partisan decisions that are destroying their state without a backward glance.
Ah well, with all the Illegals who are arriving in the state, Spanish will become the main language and the Mexican cartels that follow them to exact their pound of flesh - and the fentanyl - will control the streets ... and the politicians. I hope Kathy Hochul has her dictionary handy...!
