The position of Speaker of the House is important enough to debate and battle over and shouldn’t just be given over without any hesitations to whoever the establishment wants the speaker to be! This is some of that “democracy,” that you people are always screaming about but don’t really want. But by all means, enjoy your delusions that this is some sign of collapse if you must! That’s some major reaching but okay. I believe most republicans actually support what’s going on in this situation and feel that we are being listened to by some of them for once. We want the bargains to be made and some assurance that Kevin or whoever winds up in the position, will be on their toes, paying more attention to what their voters want instead of what the lobbyists and establishment types want. This is seen as a good thing by us. Sorry to disappoint you.

They have voted 11 times for him

In the closing days of 2018 the U.S. witnessed the longest shutdown in history, when Republican Donald Trump refused to sign a funding bill because it did not include money for his vanity wall. In the year 2020 Americans died by the refrigerated truckload as Covid ravaged the nation, the result of an incompetent Republican president whose first action included throwing away the pandemic response plan left for him by the previous administration. January 2021 saw a violent insurrection at the Capitol, led by Republicans supporting Donald Trump. Once the rioters were removed, Republicans in Congress resumed their attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. These efforts included the submission of fake slates of electors that contradicted the popular vote in several states, efforts led by Republicans.
And now we witness a debacle in the House, one not seen in more than a century and a half. Republicans show us that they cannot even fulfill the most basic responsibility of leadership.
The one common denominator in our dysfunctional government is Republicans.
