1ºI'm a "news junkie" but currently see two news stories that seem to get way too much attention...the seating of the Republican House Chairman...or to be politically correct...Chairperson. The other concerns Damar Hamlin, the football player who suffered a heart stoppage during an NFL game.
Although the Hamlin incident is tragic and regrettable, it's "hogging" way too much media time that should be available for other important news items. The media is covering every single change in his condition while he's recovering in the hospital. WHOOO...he moved his big toe, or now breaths on his own. That's good news but to the general public only a ho-hum item.
2ºDoug Eaton The gofundme was for his charity. Being a fairly new player he didn't have a non profit established. He just had a gofundme where he was raising funds to do a Toy Drive for kids in his hometown. Since Bills fans are known for donating to charity in situations like these, his gofundme was what people found and it took off, spreading nation wide with his story.
Now his gofundme will be converted to a non profit and yes, some of that money will likely go to medical organizations, as his rep has said that Damar is going to look into additional causes to support beyond the toy drive.
The money was never meant for his personal use.
3ºLeanne Mackinnon I believe the fund may be repurposed . I would like to see him place AEDs in communities with CPR training.

**UPDATE: This fundraiser was initially established to support a toy drive for Damar’s community, sponsored by the Chasing M’s Foundation. As representatives of Damar, the team at Jaster Athletes posted the fundraiser updates and will work with the Hamlin family, The Chasing M's Foundation, and the GoFundMe team to ensure the safe delivery of funds.
Damar created The Chasing M’s Foundation to use as a vehicle to bring lasting impact to his community. The foundation supports toy drives, back-to-school drives, kids camps, and more. We're hopeful about Damar's future involvement in disbursing the incredibly generous contributions.
This is the only current fund that is being used by the Hamlin Family. We appreciate your understanding as we give them the time and space they need to focus on Damar's health first.
