A showdown over Colorado River water is setting the stage for a high-stakes legal battle | CNN

Months of bitter negotiations between seven states that rely on the Colorado River’s vanishing water have collapsed along a clear fault line over the past week: California versus everyone else.

John Jeffery there are many negative issues that surround desalination plants;
1. Impact to marine life
2. contaminate groundwater supplies
3. The process of salt removal creates a concentrated product called “brine”. The brine has to go back into the ocean and millions of gallons ocean water must be used to dilute the brine. What will the results be of over saturating the ocean’s water with to much salt?
4. Desalination plants removes the minerals out of the water
5. Fossil fuels must be consumed to create the filters, screens, and equipment that are required to create the freshwater resource that is healthy enough to drink. Causing pollution.
6. Cost… The amount of energy that is required from a desalination plant to create drinkable water is higher than any other water supply option that is currently available.
7. Minimal return on investment… A typical system that is reliant on reverse osmosis will return as little as 5% of the water that is pushed through the system. The remaining water is often sent to the local wastewater facility for further processing and treatment.

To many negatives and who will pay for it… all of the American taxpayers. NO!!!
