Holly Weidenborner I ask you again how you "steal' something from someone who still has possession of it? Big Mama Thornton recorded "Hound Dog" before Elvis and performed it before him. The recording still existed after he made his and she still performed it live after he started doing the same. The only way you can "steal" music is if you claim to have written something that you did not. Which Elvis did not do. And clearly, you have no idea what I am talking about. Also, for the record, you are not particularly funny. Maybe a career change is in order?

Jeff Frohwein listen buttercup. Based on your recent post whining about people should learn the “definition” of R&R clearly you’re the one whose triggered.

I was actually proposing a more inclusive title and I agree they’ve been consistent since the beginning by including early R&B, Blues, and Rock acts.

I think they ran into trouble when they followed those genres into the 70’s nominees with the disco and early hip hop eras.

I do think those genres are worthy of recognition but they are NOT rock and roll my friend.

Music is subjective, and genres are fluid. However, after 100+ years of the modern American musical experiment and almost 70+ years of what many consider a primarily blues based genre based in Western time signatures and keys has become its own thing.

My wife and I love us some old school Missy Misdemeanor Elliot but don’t kid yourself thinking it’s Rock music.

So before you accuse me of some being some MAGA Triggered Chauvinist hating on African American artists you definitely prejudged my character falsely.

Come talk to me when you have almost 40 years experience on drums and various musical instruments.

Ronald Gray yeah it would be far fetched to see Sabbath or Metallica in the country or Jazz hall of fame since their genre came after jazz and country music. Like you said metal is a type of rock and roll.
But to have a country or R&B singer whose genre came before rock and roll and who’s genre helped shape rock and roll get into the rock and roll hall of fame, it shouldn’t be far fetched.

But you are correct that Willie and Missy should be in their respective genre’ hall of fame AS WELL as the rock and roll hall of fame because their music is applicable to both, by definition.

The same can’t be said about Metallica and Sabbath though. Their music is only applicable to the rock and roll genre.

Julie Jaws I’m so glad that you provided your input. Maybe you can help me then.. in this verse on “Get Your Freak On, what’s she saying?

“I'm the hottest 'round
I told y'all mother-ooh
Y'all can't stop me now
Listen to me now
I'm lasting twenty rounds
And if you want me (nigga)
Then come on, get me now
Is you with me now?
Then biggie-biggie-bounce
I know you dig the way I sw-sw-switch my style
(Holla) People sing around
Now people gather 'round
Now people jump around
… Go, get your freak on”

Let’s move on to “I can’t Stand The Rain” her breakout hit..

“When the rain hits my window
I take and - me some Indo
Me and Timbaland, ooh, we sang a jangle
We so tight, that you get our styles tangled
Sway on dosie-do like you loco
"Can we get kinky tonight?" Like Coko, so-so
You don't wanna play with my Yo-Yo
I smoke my hydro on the D-low
I can't stand the rain”

Lastly, “Work it..”

“Is it worth it? Let me work it
I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it
Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gnaht ym tup i
Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gnaht ym tup i
If you got a big, let me search ya
To find out how hard I gotta work ya
Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gnaht ym tup i
Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gnaht ym tup i
Come on…”

Since you seem to be the Missy whisperer, help me understand WTF she’s talking about.. In ANY of those 3 songs.. and those are just 3! There’s plenty more!!
