IOC President Thomas Bach defends plan to include Russian and Belarusian athletes at Paris Olympics

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has pleaded with politicians to “keep politics and sports apart” while defending the IOC’s controversial plans to include Russian and Belarusian athletes at the Paris 2024 Games.

Azo Kestay so, it's rubbish that Russia had invaded Ukraine is it? So it's rubbish that Russia is carrying out daily missile strikes on Ukrainian cities full of civilians is it? I think that it's you who needs a bit of a reality check. This post is about whether Russia athletes should be allowed to take part in the Olympics, not about whether the UN did or didn't support an invasion of Iraq over weapons of mass destruction (which they didn't support BTW). The UN did however overwhelmingly vote against Russias invasion of Ukraine. The UN was made up of individual countries who all have a vote and 143 of those countries voted against Russias illegal invasion and that is one reason for Russias athletes to be banned from the Olympics along with the moral question that allowing them to compete would give Putin oxygen
