So what! The dude can work everyday if he wants. But he still will not know what is like to stand behind that counter all day and worry, did I pack all the kids stuff for school today, will I have enough gas to get home, I have 20 bucks till payday what can I get for dinner, I have to stop here or there before I go home, I have laundry to do and the list goes on. That's what gets me when you hear about one of the rich having depression issues. DEPRESSION ISSUES? Lock your little I can buy anything card away and come live with me for 6 months, You'll be running back to your Malibu beach house in 3 without the depression....

See, the thing is, if I was making THAT guy's salary, I'd happily scrub toilets with a toothbrush, whether that's at Starbucks or anywhere else. You can't place someone making high six-figures in a storefront worker's job 12 days a year and expect them to come away with any realistic sort of empathy, especially when they own stock options and see every little quality of life improvement as a decreased dividend.

Make him work his job for a full year at the same hourly wage the storefront workers make, with the same benefits and whatnot, without access to his considerable pre-existing financial assets. Then they might be able to pawn this off as something other than a soft union bust. This is Starbucks, not some single-owner startup company on Undercover Boss.

Megan Elizabeth I know, right? And the opportunities for earning more stars as well as the number of bonus stars available for each opportunity has also been cut by more than half. Further, you can no longer combine opportunities-if you click to enter more than one, they "reward" you the completed opportunity that offered the least number of stars. They also no longer give you stars for store-bought ground coffee, which was how I got into their rewards program in the first place, given the fact that I rarely get to visit an actual Starbucks (it's a special treat for me, not a daily coffee run). I wouldn't complain if they're using these cutbacks to invest in their sustainability and fair trade efforts, but who knows?

Bianchi Ye you could at least let ChatGPT write a comment for you…. I feed it the text of the original post and this was its response:

As an AI language model, I don't have access to current or future events, so I cannot confirm whether Laxman Narasimhan, CEO of Starbucks, will be working in the stores as a barista once a month. However, it is not uncommon for CEOs and other high-level executives to work alongside their employees to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day operations and the challenges faced by their frontline staff. This practice is known as "management by walking around" and can help leaders make more informed decisions and build stronger relationships with their teams.

Elizabeth Barajas Starbucks really needs to make some changes, the only way is for corporate, store management, and store employees to be on one page...that only happens when everyone understands both the staffing needs it takes to run a store, and, just how bad customers have gotten. Its a sign he is willing to listen. I know this is probably not a popular take but over the last 3 or 4 years, customer behavior in retail stores has gotten out of hand and the guys up top who keep saying "just give good service" need to see what their people are dealing with

It's refreshing to see a CEO like Laxman Narasimhan taking the time to truly immerse himself in the culture of Starbucks and understand what it means to be a barista. His plan to continue working in stores for a half day each month shows that he is committed to staying connected with the company's culture and its customers. It's also great to see Starbucks investing in its employees through updated trainings, equipment, and benefits.

However, the issue of unionization is still looming over Starbucks, and it remains to be seen how Narasimhan will handle this situation. It's encouraging that unionized workers are hopeful that Narasimhan will be more open to the union than Schultz was, and hopefully, Starbucks can find a way to work with its employees to create a more positive and equitable workplace.

Cute symbolic gesture!

By The Smilely $8.8mil Dollar Man -- who now kindly agrees to pour a cup or two once a month!!!

Yet -- how about going beyond a mere twinkly, "virtue signal" grandstanding for this troubled capitalist behemoth -- and turn it into a worker-collective; give all the executives and workers the same pay and benefits as barristas -- and thereafter use buyback shares to fund guarenteed collective-owned family housing to all Starbucks workers;

Including him, and his:

In order to keep salaries and costs low --and efficiencies and market-share high.

Dump inefficient Wall Street....

And I'd be a Starbucks customer every day.
