DeSantis goes to Washington, a place he once despised, looking for support to take on Trump | CNN Politics

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will meet behind closed doors with a select group of congressional Republicans on Tuesday evening in Washington as he seeks support from within his party to challenge Donald Trump for the GOP nomination in 2024.

Mary Cronin pretty much. The Democrats can't seem to find any good candidates lately, and in 2022 the state turned red. A dysfunctional Democratic party in FL let it happen. Where the mythical red wave missed the majority of the nation, it did wash over FL.

Easy to win reelection when the Dems are offering no alternatives. The Democrats didn't show up at the polls in FL, whereas the Republicans put their foot on the gas with voter registration and actually turning out to vote (which isn't traditionally what happens).

Combine that with Republicans fleeing restrictive other states (to the tune of about 400,000 new Republican voters during the pandemic on FL) then it's not hard to see how FL went from purple to red really fast.

And I don't think it's going to change next year. The Democrats have given up.

Michael Vadon call him what you want but he will not win the presidency. It’s time people wake up and smell the coffee, the voting demographic changes every year. There’s an incredibly fast growing number of people who are registering independent which means they don’t follow either party necessarily but when Ron DeSantis comes out with his antiabortion Viewpoint… He is going to lose. Between the gun safety issue and abortion rights, Democrats have this in the bag in 2024 no matter who they run. Between women and younger people it’s just not gonna happen. Republicans are Yesterdays news until they except reality that a large majority of people in this country are tired of gun violence, and they do not support the anti-abortion agenda. PERIOD

According to reports, DeSantis will discuss his political plans and strategies at the meeting and how to build his base of support within the Republican Party. He will also discuss with Republican leaders Trump's influence on the party and how to deal with Trump's influence in the coming years.

DeSantis is a high-profile Republican politician who was once a Trump supporter but has recently disagreed with Trump. He had a notable record as governor of Florida and performed well during the new crown epidemic.

Although DeSantis has not officially announced his candidacy for president in 2024, he has emerged as one of the leading candidates to challenge Trump in the Republican Party. If he can win enough support, then he could be the next presidential candidate.

Erin Perry What two adults do behind closed doors is their business but when it starts to be forced upon people especially young children then it's a totally different story. I seem to remember it being Antifa physically attacking people on the streets and college campuses, keeping them from exercising their First Amendment Rights. I seem to remember it being Democratics who are weaponizing the F.B.I against parents at school board meetings for exercising their First Amendment rights about their children's education. The list goes on. You wanna talk about Nazis then let's talk about what your party is doing.
