Vehicles became more efficient and cheaper and you were not dependent of the railway time tables. Distance is also a factor as many countries such as Japan and England are alot smaller and their for easier to make the Infrastructure possible. Our power grid would also have to be upgraded. So many factors other than greed at play here. Why not get the government to downgrade its wasteful expenditures and put that money to better use? If the private sector has to do it, you can bet it will be expensive for the consumer.
