1ºStephanie Otten your question may be rhetorical, but it really IS the question people should be discussing! Most people focus on what should have happened, where they have no power to change the past, rather than discussing why it happened and seeing if they can address the root cause and reduce such occurrences in the future.
Me, personally, I see commonality between this story and the story of the teen shot when he went to the wrong address. I see parallels to how people respond to each other online and often in the streets. It's an assumption that the other person is bad or means to cause you harm, before assessing the intent of the other person. In both of these tragedies, if the shooter took a moment to think about what was happening, possibly ask questions , or ward off the "threats" by yelling first, then things would be different.
That is also what I propose we can all do; think before we act, post, comment or film. Guard yourself if you feel threatened, but assume the good in someone before choosing to act.
Now, there are times when a threat is real, calling 911 is legit, the use of arms is justifiable. The same can be said about how people treat each other on social media. Those times, however, are far less common than we are seeing.
Think better of your fellow humans. We will all be better off.
2ºJeth Zosa country folks aren't messing around anymore, it's sad but it's true. Craziness goes on in the bigger cities and for example, my town with 20k is free from major crime. We all carry, we all have guns. We go to gun shows, we hunt, we go to sports stores, armories. We have no issues. Drive 25 miles to the next bigger city though... Folks don't know how to act. Drugs are illegal and the folks with guns have priors so they didn't buy their guns so how is that? Crime like that goes hand in hand but the gun is the same. If folks want us to not get defensive when some stranger pulls up then talk to the media. They want to put the craziness on full blast and then expect those of us living low key and safe to not be on guard. What do you think people will rob when the Walmarts they looted and shut down are gone? The gas stations, drug stores, convenience stores? We don't want it. Like I said, take it up with the media who glorifies and shares it none stop. Take it up with your city if yours is one of the ones losing stores and community members to violence. It seems like that violence is acceptable but this kind of this is seen as the evil of all evils. Fix the problem that makes Americans be afraid.
3ºSo no one, regardless of color, is safe now! All because there are no cojones is strengthening guns laws. No background checks, nothing. I am a legal firearm owner with a background check and a license to prove it. My hunting rifles are trigger locked, unloaded and in a locked gun cabinet attached to a wall. The keys to the triggers and cabinet are in another room and I'm the only one who knows where they are and I'm also the only one living here. Why so much security? Because I know how to respect a firearm and people. Plus if anyone breaks in here and gets past me and my baseball bats, they are still going to have a hard time getting to my firearms. If someone drives into my driveway I'll be out there asking how I can help them, not dang kill them!!!
4ºMike Lee Limmer sadly no we’re not. We as a society are so manipulated by whatever side of the aisle anyone supports that the majority of the people have lost the ability to think for themselves. Not to mention the people who self medicate with whatever substance they choose, who turn to crime, sometimes violent crime, as a means to support their addiction. Not to mention the blind hatred towards members of the lgbtq community, black community, various other ethnic, religious and age groups that eventually turns violent. Plus the violence towards our women in this country has skyrocketed. Like I said I carry as my last line of defense because I know how to fight. But I’m not afraid to use lethal force when it comes to the protection of my wife, my kids, my family or my fellow human beings. Sadly the majority of the people are to ignorant to understand why most people choose to carry a firearm and we would be better of trying to have a discussion about it with a wall. At least the wall will listen.
5ºRobert Zaleski, so I could list countless examples of the opposite, in which you would then list countless examples defending your side, and there in lies the problem. That is exactly what our leaders want us to do. This is what Russia, China, Iran, North Korea want us to do. America and her citizens are great. We have a leadership problem, and a very bad one, and when you come in a Pauper and leave as a King I’d say there lies the biggest problem this country has.
We don’t fix our own side because we feel the other side is worse. If I excoriate you for all that I think you are wrong about, would you listen? Or would you be highly offended and conclude that I must your political polar opposite. It is so much easier to point fingers at others than to help those who are broken who believe as we do.
I don’t post to argue, I post to try to convince others to help the broken in our spheres of influence.

8ºWhat the f is happening to people nowadays that instead of helping strangers, they just shoot them dead, no questions asked, without knowing a single reason for why they might have even been there. What if they were in trouble and needed help?
Imagine if that could happen for every wrong number you might have dialed on the phone. You dial the wrong number and blam! I don’t know you so I’m going to kill you.
Is this really what we’ve come to?
God forbid anyone ever get lost or need help or ring the wrong doorbell or drive up the wrong driveway or who knows what else.
You know how we can really “Make America Great Again”? Take away the goddamn guns and assault rifles. Too many mentally challenged people have them and too eagerly use them as a first choice instead of a last.
9ºThe sad truth is this could happen to so many people including myself. I work as a mobile automotive technician and our system goes by GPS so sometimes I end up at the neighbor's house instead of the customer's especially when the customer doesn't answer the phone. Navigation might put you at a street behind your actual destination when you're dealing with farmy back roads like this. I've been down many wrong driveways, in outskirt neighborhoods as well as the not the greatest parts of the city too and I'm sure this is true for Amazon, Fed-Ex, etc. Sometimes people's addresses are barely or not visible at all. Dealing with boomers that are ready to pull a trigger at anything that moves without their say so is not part of the job.
10ºCaucasian America is starting to see how those gun happy nincompoops are starting to be trigger happy. Before they use to say if only they obeyed the laws etc, but now they see their own race of people being gunned down it’s a whole new story and many remain silent to what they allowed for so long, as long as it happened to people of color. Karma is coming back to your door step. And soon even those guns won’t be enough to protect them from the flood of immigrants that will make them the minority in a country their ancestors stole from the native Americans.
