Black homeowners had the smallest wealth gains over the past decade | CNN Business

It remains harder for Black homeowners to achieve the same wealth gains in homeownership that other groups do.

Andrea Dunn I don’t think too many white people are moving into many black neighborhoods. Maybe in certain areas where developers come in and level/rebuild large tracks of run down essentially deserted areas. However I seriously doubt many white (or Asian) families are moving into black neighborhoods. Now granted I haven’t been to a ton of black neighborhoods, but the ones I’ve seen in PA, CA, AZ, MI, OH and TN weren’t too appealing. Rougher neighborhoods, higher crime, lower property values, poor school system, lower tier retail businesses, etc… Its not a race/racism thing like some people try to argue. I think its more a urban/poor black “sub-culture” thing. It also not just property/wealth, but education, crime rates, single parent households, etc. Unfortunately you never hear anyone talking about it or trying to work possible solutions to improve the situations. I think the only people I’ve ever heard address it at all are Ben Carson and Candace Owens, and people blasted them for saying there needs to be some cultural improvements in certain communities to help them break the cycles. Hopefully it will improve at some point.

Sandy ZV see thats where you don't get it...its not using it as an excuse for ANYTHING. Its the simple fact that its never acknowledged. Its just a dark stain in American history that should just go away and be forgotten. I see race from both sides my mom is white and my dad is black....I know what true black and white racism looks and sounds like in the south. I KNOW the advantages the white side of my family were able to enjoy then turn around and see the struggles of my dads side both living in the same town with completely different opportunities for economic and social advancement. It takes generations to recover from that type of oppression. But again we as a country do not have the want to to try and understand our fellow man's path either you are far right or far left and if our views don't align then you are against me.....thats what we have grown into and we have to do better by each other...

Brandon Goins you completely ignored everything I stated about personal responsibility dictating ones path. Typical. My ancestors didn't come to the US until the 1920's, but I know about the slavery that went on in Ireland, that continued until only about 15 years ago. In today's world, minorities have MORE opportunities handed to them just because of their race. Did you know in law school 90% of all summer internship jobs are automatically reserved for "diversity hires"? How fair is that when ALL the minority students are 2nd, 3rd generation law student or other graduate professionals? Why should they have more opportunities than first generation college graduates, from low to middle class homes?

Brandon Goins that is a bunch of BS, sorry. People make their own choices and their choices determine their path. If someone doesn't make good life choices, have kids they can't afford, don't do well in school, don't go to college, don't have dual parent homes, those are ALL choices. Being white does not make things easier, at ALL. I grew up in poverty, but overcame with hard work, grit, and making good life choices. Am I super well off, absolutely not, but my family is a working class, middle class family. My ancestors came to the US with absolutely nothing, from Ireland, and if you know anything about history, the Irish were treated very poorly. My grandmother didn't let that stop her and her and my grandfather made good choices as well, and worked for everything. Self responsibility and proper life choices dictate what happens.

Brandon Goins my son is a law student, and I know for a fact that most jobs are reserved for diversity hires. Out of 15 jobs that came out he was only allowed to apply for 1, the rest were reserved for diversity hires. Doesn't matter that every single minority student was from affluent families, so again how is that fair? You need to look at what is actually happening. Minorities get more scholarships money, have high job placement all because of diversity requirements, not because of how well they perform. All across the country this is happening. Again, Minorities are handed more opportunities just because of their race and culture.

Sandy ZV I didnt ignore it at all...personal choices absolutely play a PART in one's path but the fact that you don't know the answer to your own question AGAIN proves my point. You dont understand the generational wealth gap between all races in this country and how it came to be. If your grandmother and your mother came to the US and was told you have to work for ME for free while I get rich, you can't own land or property, you can't have access to an education, you can't vote and you have rights as a human being....what sort of start in life do you think you would have at this very moment. Now think what my kids lives would look after I pass down to them everything your ancestors built for me based off your grandmother and mothers decades of hard work and sweat.
We have to stop acting like its a even playing field when its never been. Not ONE white person of any background would choose to switch places with a black or brown person even in today's society as things are improving and until we are honest with ourselves as to why that is we will never see eye to eye.
