1ºMicah Smith Okay good. Let’s have an intelligent debate. First I did not mention my personal religious beliefs at all. However, you made reference to what YOU believe them to be. You also took license to speak to how I feel about drag performers. These are fairly crass assumptions given that you don’t know me. I’ve made no similar assumptions about you. However, I will attempt to keep this debate on topic rather than enter into 3 additional ones. I live in Palm Springs, CA and I’ve traveled to somewhere around 30 countries. I am well aware of what is in the world. And yes, they will be exposed to all of the glorious variety the world has to offer, and that’s great………..WHEN they’re adults. I’m in no way advocating to curtail the rights of adults, but it becomes an issue when children are involved. It’s irrelevant whether or not the person is just reading them Mother Goose nursery rhymes in drag. It’s confusing for small children, and politics should not even factor into it. As for the argument that children being exposed to what’s “in the world” goes…… should we start sending them on field trips to Sudan or Ukraine so they experience life in war torn country? Should they all have like two weeks of starvation training so they can experience what so many around the world experience? Of course not. The bottom line is; we’re talking about kids. With that being said, I’m sure that we will not find mutual ground on this issue. I will not convince you, and you will not convince me. And, that’s fine, and part what makes free speech so great.
2ºUnless you want to be the father in the hospital waiting area , agonizing while your daughter is bleeding to death but the hospital has to get the ok to give her a life saving abortion , from some sleazy politician , do not vote for a single Republican in 2024. They have given up on democracy and are ruled by Christian fascists that want to criminalize any behavior that does not conform to their narrow views . They are attacking women, minorities, lgbtq, intellectuals . They want white Christian men with absolute power over everyone else and God only knows what they want to do with minorities later on. I am free to quote Bible verses anywhere because that is the standard I try to live by and this country used to be based on much of those same standards. Sadly, we have slipped so far that people like you think that sin and evil have different degrees but they are ALL EVIL and deserving of rebuke. If our great grandparents were to come back and see this society we live in and the things we watch, they would say we all belong in a mental institution.
4ºTodd Rye comparing exposing to kids that the LGBTQ community exists is not the same to exposing to life threatening situations like war and starvation. You talk about rights when children are involved..do you feel the same way about gun control when guns are the leading death of children? You want gun control and an assault rifle ban?
You talked about it being confusing for children. It's only confusing if you don't take the time to explain and educate.
I was confused as a high schooler when I went to my first drag show as an 18 year old not knowing what the hell a drag queen was. But guess what, I educated myself and learned all about it and wondered why i didn't know that it was a thing until I was 18. Honestly wished I was exposed to it alot earlier on in life because at first I was hateful toward them.

6ºTodd Rye there's nothing wrong with children being exposed to drag shows that are not sexually explicit which most of them are not. We talk about parent rights so why not be okay with it if the parents are the ones taking them there to see drags? It's important because children need to be exposed to what exists in the real world.
Here's another scenario.. why should kids go to church when its more likely that a kid will be sexually assaulted by a priest or a pastor than it is a drag queen? If it's about protecting kids, then let's protect them from those that are more likely to take advantage of them sexually.
Another scenario.. why should people be allowed to take their children to gun shows, NRA events, etc. when guns are the number 1 cause of deaths for children? If it's about protection, shouldn't we protect them by not exposing them to guns?
Of course your answer to those 2 scenarios would be that it's okay for those because you agree with religion and guns and not with drag queens so of course you would side with banning kids from being there even though it's their own parents making the decision to expose their kids to drag queen story time or kid friendly shows. These kids are not going to bars and clubs where the shows could be sexually explicit. They just aren't.
Are there some very slim percentages of kids being exposed to sexually explicit ones? Absolutely and that isn't right. Instead of creating a full ban on children attending these, make it a crime in some way for these very small percentages of sexually explicit ones. But again, religious people and those on the right think they are all 100% sexually explicit when in the real world, they just arent.
