Woman pleads guilty to 1990 murder of a Florida mother while dressed as a clown but still denies committing the crime | CNN

Three decades after a woman in Florida was fatally shot by a person dressed as a clown, the longtime suspect -- who went on to marry the victim’s widower -- has pleaded guilty even as her lawyers maintain she is innocent.

Late Wednesday afternoon, The New York Post was the first to report on a photo taken by an AFP photojournalist which appeared to show that President Joe Biden had advanced knowledge of at least one reporter's question (LA Times reporter Courtney Subramanian), during Wednesday's joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Curiously, the big three evening news broadcasts had no interest in reporting that Biden's White House was apparently now screening reporters' questions for the geriatric President. You would think the networks would have some questions about this, but like most other controversies surrounding Biden, they sweep it under the rug.

Siboniso Ndlovu it’s called an Alford plea. Your plea asserts your innocence basically (you don’t admit to the crime), but in doing so also admit the evidence against you would likely persuade a trial judge and jury you’re guilty.

Alford pleas apply to federal and most US state courts.

That’s not what happened here. Most prosecutors offer plea deals. Trial is avoided and the defendant agrees to plea guilty in exchange for a “deal”. They might get a lesser sentence or avoid the death penalty with the plea.

It’s not like TV. Many defendants simply cannot afford or don’t wish to go through a trial and a plea deal is a way to avoid all that. Most defendants from misdemeanors to felonies in the US do get offered and accept plea deals. They do have a right to a fair trial but in practice… the system is overworked and expensive.
