A light year is the distance light travels in an earth year
~9,467,085,600,000 km (9.47 trillion km)
So based on how I originally read the article before re-reading it, I was thinking that based on the explosion being 8 billion light years away, them saying the universe is 6 billion years old doesn't make sense. Because if something is 8 billion light years away, the universe is at least 8 billion years old. And when we observe this explosion, it actually happened 8 billion years ago
