Tony N Kim Hewitt how won’t it? Well, I what I mean is when I constantly see stories from gun loving states where kids die, it’s always too soon to talk about it.

I’ve been making asinine comments, because I’m desensitized to it. I have screamed my self hoarse at all you that constantly say we shouldn’t talk about this, it’s too soon! None of you care. Voted for politicians that are willing do something, but you keep voting In Republicans. People that will tinkle on your head and tell you it’s raining, then try to sell you an umbrella.

All that is left are asinine comments, it’s how those of us that see these everyday deal with it now, until all the Republicans decide that dead kids’ blood doesn’t actually water the tree of liberty, and that adult regulations are possible.

And before you start talking 2 Amendment defending from tyranny and all, put up or shut it. You all like to talk a big game, but I don’t see any of you ACTUALLY getting things started.

Peter S. Saly Mexico would have less crime if they were tougher on their border. All of the guns that end up in MX are guns that Americans bought and sold to the Mexicans. MX hates us for it, that is why they couldn't GAF about the drugs that make it into our country. Those countries you speak of with more murders than we have, care to show some proof of that? If someone is proposing that they come straight to YOUR house to take your guns, you likely deserve to lose your guns. I mean, out of all the millions of americans, if they pick YOU to disarm there is obviously good reason to take your guns. You know that, I know that, we all know that. It sucks that your feelings are hurt. I hope you do not go on some sort of rampage now that your feelings are hurt...jus sayin.

Todd Jeffrey Keep on "..just sayin"
Too bad it's all bogus
We have a whole slew of Democrats who have flat-out declared their intent to disarm Americans. See Diane Feinsten and her "Mr & Mrs America, Turn them all in.." video on 60 Minutes
Gun control does NOT work
If it did there would NOT be 86 (out of 172) countries with stricter gun control than the US and HIGHER homicide by gun rates than the US.
Gun control heavens like Mexico, Brazil, Jamaica, Russia, et all would have less crime than the US if gun control actually worked to DISARM CRIMINALS
Jus sayin...

Scott Harris The article was about a child in Day Care. No amount of diversion changes that. I am not anti-gun. Everyone has a right to own one. I am anti-reckless gun use. I honestly don’t know the laws of Utah but in my state firearms cannot be legally discharged within 500 ft of a dwelling, farm building, or structure in occupation or use unless you own it, lease it, are an immediate member of the family, an employee, or have the owner's consent. Point is responsible gun owners use guns responsibly and that should be everyone’s intention and obligation. If you care about gun rights that should align with your beliefs also.

Thad Maske - academics say what they want and you have nothing to move the conversation forward other than your feelings, opinions and hearsay. It's comical that you think that 108,000 defensive gun uses is a larger number than 300,000 violent gun crimes annually to you. You have no evidence of any to support your claim that law abiding citizens who have legally accessed their weapons from retail gun stores are reducing crime in red states with fewer gun restrictions.

What about the astronomical number of gunfire-related deaths the US experiences the US experiences that are directly attributed to rural law abiding conservative white males who have legally accessed their weapons from retail gun stores? Do you not care about that demographic?

Good going stup.D

Michael Ring - the cdc reports that the astronomical number of defensive gun uses are in dispute. Academics put the number of defensive gun uses at 108,000 which is radically low within the context of 300,000 violent gun crimes annually.

But thanks for posting an opinion article from a Financial magazine.

From the cdc, Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of -Related Violence: with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010). On the other hand, some scholars point to a radically lower estimate of only 108,000 annual defensive uses based on the National Crime Victimization Survey (Cook et al., 1997). The variation in these numbers remains a controversy in the field. The estimate of 3 million defensive uses per year is based on an extrapolation from a small number of responses taken from more than 19 national surveys. The former estimate of 108,000 is difficult to interpret because respondents were not asked specifically about defensive gun use.

The proliferation of guns is the result of Republicans being bought off by the NRA using Russian money. The NRA has spent the last three decades eliminating gun control laws. The proliferation of guns is the result of Republicans being bought off by the NRA using Russian money. The NRA has spent the last three decades eliminating gun control laws. They proclaimed that every American is responsible enough or mentally or emotionally stable enough to own a gun. Now guns are in the hands any crazy yahoo.
Switzerland and Israel have armed citizens. They also don't let every crazy yahoo strut around with a gun. Gun owners need complete background checks, psychological testing, training and pass a competency test. The US should learn from them.

Rico Romel it is.... you are asking why a city that has a population greater than two of the States you mentioned combined has more gun violence.... people don't like other people but more so people have mental issues and a lot of them should not have access to guns.... when people who should not have access to guns are able to drive for 2 hours and get a gun it's a problem.... oftentimes that problem is exemplified by the killings of other people once those who should not have a gun are able to get their hands on guns.... when it comes to Chicago, a city that has five times the population of the state of Wyoming and more than twice the population of the state of Montana, there are a lot of f****** people who should not have access to a gun.... but with a short 2-hour Drive to Indiana those people can now get guns.... once they have them they drive back to Chicago and shoot the people they had problems with, because they never should have had access to guns in the first place and Chicago stopped them from buying guns in Chicago.... the way to fix this problem is federal laws that insist on things like background checks so that people in Indiana don't sell guns to people who live in Chicago that should not have guns.... this isn't f****** rocket science that we are discussing.... people who know that they should not have access to guns are definitely going to try to find an easy way to get their hands on one.... when it comes to the city of Chicago, the entire state of Indiana is an easy way for people who should not have guns to gain access to guns.... how f****** dentist does one have to be not to recognize this
